Hi,

Would any of you kind people happen to be local to this dealer? They have a low milage silver 06 roadster that I'm interested in, I know it's a bit on the dear side but if it's immaculate I might see if they want to do a deal?

So my question is could/would  anyone in the know possibly swing by and give me an honest description of the car. Unfortunately I'm 200 miles away and have done it all before only to be let down by an over enthusiastic description from the seller.

Cheers, Mike.

Not local so cannot help with taking a look I'm afraid.

However, accepting its low mileage and from a main dealer, the price tag of almost six grand seems sky high imo.

It's only covered just over 20k and looks to be standard, yet someone has painted the callipers red?

The close of up of one of the wheels shows that someone has put some Indonesian rubber on it, which again doesn't really fit with the "no expense spared" price tag.

I'd also argue that price tag would still be a little high for a TF complete with a hard top!

I also thought that the roof looked as if it had been replaced, in the pics it doesn't look vinyl? Could just be the light. I was thinking it would be worth £5000. And of course it would need a new set of tyres. They are going to ring me on Monday.

Incidently, I have just seen a sable with leather, 04, 58000 miles, FSH and its quite local. £3350. Not my favourite colour but I will have to have a look at that I think. Pics look good. I think I just need to be patient..........Thanks for your input.

I thought the roof looked new too, but the pictures are fairly low resolution.  I was perhaps thinking that maybe there was an accompanying hard top at that price which might explain its new appearance, although it looks more like mohair.

Sable is usually fairly a fairly sought after colour and (imho) worth a few pounds more than silver (dons protective helmet for incoming abuse [emoji4]).

I've travelled a good distance countless times to look at an 'immaculate' car and ended up looking at it for less that five mins.  Has the dealer described it as immaculate?

Just spotted a black TF300  15,500 miles in Barnsley..... £3285.  If it's for real, it seems like an opportunity.  Much closer to you.

Carolyn, I think that's the car we were advising KTMrider to be wary of?

It's the cat 'D' with mileage anomalies!

Well I spoke to the guy with the sable car today, to be fair he was honest and said it has a slight tear in the roof.......sent me some pics too. It is at the bottom of the hood on one side and is on the seam(above the air scoop)

So the search continues.

Re the black TF300, that is exactly the car and seller I want to avoid, I mean it's almost like the guy wants to put buyers off!

Why does the roof put you off?
If the rest of the car is good then a roof is an easy fix.
Cheap too if your willing to travel to Wales.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I thought it would be a bit of a nightmare to fix so it was right. Wouldn't you be able to tell?

And how much off would a tear be worth then, it's up for £3350.

Also there are cars out there with roofs that are good, so I was going to wait for one of those.

300 for a new mohair style one from Jack Smith's.
You should be able to get the price of the car down by at least 500 quid most places charge 700 odd for a new roof.

Thanks 1979scotte. Jack Smith's does look like they do a fantastic job. It is over 300 miles away for me though. You have got me considering at least going to have a look at the sable car. £2850 if he would take it would be a good buy if it is as good as it sounds.

Might give him an email.

Just for interest, I drove from Durham to get my roof from Jack Smiths. As Scotte says, dont let it put you off the car if the rest is good.

Just go through the buyers guide, and check the subframe!

Don't worry I have got my buyers check list. I have emailed the guy so lets see what he says regarding some money off to allow for the tear.

Regarding the silver car in the post title. They never got back to me, not even an email.......great service from a Toyota dealership. If they can't be bothered when you might want to buy off them, I can only imagine what the response is when you have an issue with the car.

They didn't appear to have put any effort into the advert either.  No comment on its condition and stating it will come with a 'peace of mind service", then whacking a high asking price iirc.  Low mileage and from a main stealer guarantees nothing nowadays...

There's a TF300 quite near me, 59,000 miles at a dealership. I am thinking of going to view it tomorrow. It's 4995. I am sure I can haggle a bit off if it's okay however the mrs isn't so keen because  out of 300 it's number 69! LOL

The one on Gumtree in Hartlepool........

Wasn't as good as it sounds (4 year gap in the "FSH" and the subframe was holed directly above the exhaust) but I still offered significantly more than £2850 and shook on it, until I woke up the next day thinking I'd been a bit hasty   s:oops:  s:oops:  which is why it's always better to take a mate.

What put me off was not the subframe as such (as they can be replaced and many cars will need one eventually) more the fact it had spent all its life in Hartlepool in sea air, so what about some of the other less obvious areas of the car   s:?: :?: s:?:

All a bit academic now as I see you have bought a TF (er, no not the MG)

That's interesting Alan....I only ever spoke to the seller on the phone and via email. To be fair he came across as an honest bloke. Was it tidy apart from the sub frame? It did look nice in the pics. He did tell me that someone was coming to look at it from York in his last email. He probably didn't know anything about the sub frame and the issues they can have. I guess he does now.

Regarding the FSH, I wish people would not mis-describe their cars when advertising them, seems to happen all the time and puts me off travelling a long way to view as you just know it could be disappointing. The silver 55 in Durham was described as immaculate and it was very tired. Lots of rust too.

I'm pleased with my new one, it was more than I wanted to pay really but I'm hoping to keep it for a good while and it is nice that it's a TF. You can tell it has been looked after by an enthusiast rather than a 'normal' person.  s:D :D s:D

Seller was a nice guy, but it wasn't really even his car (backstory was his wife used to admire it when his brother in law had it, so his wife ended up with it). Car did look nice overall, but if you were picky then as well as a subframe it needed a roof (as mentioned, although I reckon you could have done a near invisible repair) and a rear bumper (or bumper repaint) as it had a deep scratch and a also corner rub that had taken roughly  5mm by 20mm section of paint off.

really pleased with my new one too (as  per my sig) and the seller was an enthusiast too, who was quite obviously gutted to sell.
