I need to drill undernear the cubby doors to mount my amp but want to know how dar away I'll be from the petrol tank.

I'm going to pilot drill a whole and then use small selp tappers to fix the amp up against the carpet behind the passenger seat.  How many inches behind the metal I'll be drilling is the petrol tank?

NO SMOKING IN THE AREA!!!   s:shock:  s:shock:

You see that grey circular fitting in the bottom of the passenger side cubby?

Essentially, that IS the tank... Its actually where the pump and level sender live... Now, take a look at the rest of the car, and see how many spare "inches" you can find between fixtures and fittings, and then you may realise that velro is your greatest ally...  s:wink:  s:wink:  I wouldnt go drilling in there myself, there will be a gap, but in typical Toyota fashion, it'll be very small, so fillling it with spikes may be something you come to regret should you have another accident.

Industrial strength velcro as Grant suggested is definately the method to use for this job. Its great stuff and not too expensive  s:wink:  s:wink:

There is actually around 3 inches between the Grey fitting and the Tank.  It is the same both sides.

I wouldn't suggest putting a drill through though!

well put it this way, a mate of mine was working near the petrol tank on his car and decided to empty the petrol tank first, so whilst he lay under the car, he emptied the dregs into a container when WOOF, the hole lot went up, he ended up with 6 months off work and 1st degree burns from the torso up. he only kept his hair due to wearing a turban, but it badly disfigured his face. Something to think about before you start drilling!

oh and velcro works lovely on amps in that area, mines been in there 2 months and not moved at all and it was big enough to have to mod the cubby hole floor to fit.

And if you do get the need to work with the tank in any way, it's not enough that you just empty it. It's still full of gasoline fumes just waiting to explode. Fill it with water before doing anything.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.
