Tein lowering springs

Iv recently had to change the front shock absorber on the 2 as it started making a god awefull sound. I thought the top mount had come away so sent it in to my local trusted garage to sort it while I was away. The conclusion was the shock was nackered although it didn't show any signs it was something internal that had gone. I'm running tein a-tech 30mm lowering springs which Iv looked and and are made to run with standard shocks, however the garage seem to think that the springs could have caused the issue. Has anyone else run into this problem or is it just a freak occurrence like I believe it is?

I have been running Tein-S springs for some time with KYB struts and no issues.  But struts do fail, especially fronts as they handle turning and suspension

If you aren't running bump stops, then damage is possible.  If you hit a lot of potholes, that won't do them any good either.

I'm guessing bump stops are fitted, why wouldn't you have them? Car had the springs fitted when I bought it. I just think it was just it's time to fail myself

Another case of a garage talking rubbish.
Toyota sold similar springs themselves.
Never heard anyone have issues with Tein.
How many miles has the car done?
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Time for a change IMHO.
Not everyone would agree.
They'd be wrong.

Mr X

I've had my tein springs on (I fitted them with new KYBs but using the old mounts) for 4 years now and done over 40k. No problems so far!
I'm not saying I'm batman. I'm just saying that nobody has ever seen me and batman in a room together.

Like Scott above, garage talking bollocks. Find s better garage/mechanic.
Toyota TTE spring vs Tein S spring. To all intents and purposes the same spring.

edit
like brake pads n discs n clutches etc, shocks are a wear n tear consumable item

Other consumable items exclusively to MR2s rear subframes and handbrake cables.  ;)

There is a school of thought about cars in general that says using lowering springs will shorten the life of standard shocks.

Lowering springs are designed to work with standard shocks. Shocks do wear out though but I dont agree that a shock going on a lowered car means that the spring caused this, I think it just wore out.

I dont think you have anything to worry about  but I would change all 4 shocks together to keep the handling sweet.

Where people seem to get into trouble with lowering springs is not following instructions like cutting the bump stops.  Some just leave them out, which is dumb.  But if you went 68K, it is possible the struts just wore out.  I have seen even Koni's worn out at 90k with stock springs.

A good shop would suggest changing at least both front struts with that many miles and should also tell you exactly why it was making a noise.

Other causes of noise are the bearings in the top mount or even a loose top rod bolt.
