Hi all

Question about servicing intervals -

My second service took place in Aug 2004 with 14k miles on the clock

I've done 10k miles since then so the car is up to 24k - Is it time for a service or do I wait until 30k or August 2005 (which ever is sooner)?

Thanks

Tom

You are due a service 10k miles or 12 months (whichever soonest) after the previous one.  So, yours is due now at 24k miles.

Don't leave it longer, 10k miles is PLENTY long enough without an oil change and check of the brakes.

...and you'll invalidate your warranty if you don't get it done.

Thanks Andy

Just called my dealer to book service...got the usual "I'll get the service dept to call you book"...  Great customer service as usual...(!)

The maintenance booklet has all of the scheduled services listed in it. If you don't have one of these you should obtain one - they're inexpensive from the dealer (one of the only things that are).

Although Toyota claims you only need an oil and filter change every 5K miles, doing it every 3 (five thousand kilometers) is a good idea, particularly if your driving involves frequent stops and starts, or if the car is garaged several days a week.

The UK service schedule is oil and filter every 10k miles or 12 months (whichever sooner).  Whether this is adequate will depend on oil quality, filter capacity, treatment of the engine and how long you need the engine to last.
Whether anyone choses to change the oil and filter more often than recommended is purely personal choice.  For what it's worth, I think the oil in my '2 looks pretty yukky after 8k miles (changed at 1500 and 10000 and now on 18000) and after 20k I think I'll go for 5k changes.  More often than 5k or 6 months (whichever sooner) would be, in my opinion, overkill, unless the car has lots of short journeys where it doesn't warm up.
