In the middle of an oil change and have discovered dampness around the sump. It'll be the gasket no doubt. Can anyone please recommend a good sealant etc. Any tips or advice regarding the removal of the sump would be great appreciated.

Many thanks

Carolyn

There is no sump gasket.  It's pretty much glued on with sealant.  Springing a leak from there is most unusual.

Before you start taking the sump off, my I suggest that you get some petrol on a rag and clean all the oil off the bottom of the engine, run the car a bit, and have another look.

Any oil leak (from almost anywhere on the engine), or spill while filling, will tend to end up around the sump!

The more oil you can clean off, the better chance you have of tracing the leak. (If you really have one).

Thanks for the advice. I've cleaned it up and 'if' there is a leak is seems to be coming from the corner partially obscured by the plastic fly-wheel cover. This may indicate a possible leak from the main driveshaft seal....
For the moment I'll keep a eye on things.

I'm certain that the oil around the bottom of the engine has not originated from the filler or cam cover seal. Cleaned up the bottom of sump and ran the engine for fifteen minutes. Nothing. There's some oil on the inner ledge of the fly wheel which could have come from the sump joint or possibly the main crank seal.
How likely is it to be the crank seal? How long can I leave it to be sure? The total loss so far is less than half a tea cup - maybe just over an egg cup.

Helen's has this little leak as well. I haven't been able to locate it. I thought it was the tensioner, it wasn't. Then the oil return to sump from turbo, nope.
It's absolutely minimal. Less than most people burn a year haha.

I've done the same, cleaned it off to see but it doesn't seem to come out of one distinct location.
