So I've had the TTE for a while now and in general I think the sound and the looks are the best for the MR2. My opinion of course.

Having that said... I may be getting old or boring but I'd like it to be a bit quieter. The induction noise ticks the boxes for me more than the exhaust noise. The car simply isn't fast enough to warrant the brrrapppppp

Is there such thing as a well-flowing (better than stock) exhaust, dual pipe, that is lighter but not as loud?

You'll need feed back from someone who has one but what about the fox dual exit ?

The stock exhaust flows fine.  Just quieter.

And you can get one in good condition for nothing from any of the folk who've removed them so they can make more noise.

It's just SO heavy and the tips are hideous (and single)

I'm tempted to do some weight saving. Not sure yet. Certainly don't want to add tons. I couldn't believe the weight of the stock exhaust

When I was searching for mine before I got the TTE, I came across the following for our MK3's:
Fox - dual or quads
Cobra - dual or quads
Blitz - single
Ebay ones - dual central
Powerflow - custom made

I think they would all be louder then the TTE, the guys who fitted my TTE do the custom powerflow and they did say I could fully customise the tips and the sound to some degree so may be worth a chat with a local dealer to see if it's possible?

Happy hunting!

You're probably right. I need to have a chat with my local exhaust doctor

I read somewhere about using back boxes in reverse flow to quieten down.
You should hear mine. I think it's very civilized. The power flow box is small but it runs diagonally to get most out of the baffling.

Patrick does your existing one just need repacking?
Before being too hasty, still suggest, if you can wait till ding day, park next to me and we'll compare what yours and mine sound like.

Definitely a real possibility. I've mentioned this as well but it doesn't sound too different from the day I got it. I checked a video from back then

Careful on the repacking. I trumpeted my success on that last year for a £100 "investment".

My exhaust has just burned & spat out whatever TF they "packed" in there.

Loud as it was before & £100 down [emoji849]

Oh no that's really disappointing to hear ! After reading you had yours done I had a discussion with a specialist exhaust fabricator about how it was possible to be repacked, he told me it wasn't. I thought he was talking out his backside  :-[

I can't believe you think it's too loud.
I think mine is too quiet and that's with 3 litres of V6 pumping through it.

Will probably be hard to find but a twin Magnex may be of interest to you.

Looks similar to the TTE except it's a lot quiter. Just very very slightly louder than stock so you would hear the vvti crossover and induction/airbox noise quite well.

I'm considering modding mine and having an electric valve fitted so I can switch between quiet and loud with the press of a button :D

Not by much. When I installed it I was "hand weighing" them and the TTE was definitely very noticeably lighter. But we're talking a few kg. Not 10.

I'll look forward to everybody's thoughts on mine at Ding Day.

I was thinking the exact same thing! I've found a solenoid controlled valve on ebay to be controlled by either a relay powered by a certain TPS value and a switch. It was the location that made me think this would turn into a very expensive custom exhaust

a

Fox system nice and quite...Add the PPE header and cat slightly louder.

For what it's worth I'm sure my Fox oval is around 2kg heavier than the standard box. The extra tailpipe on its own weighs around 2kg.

I've actually thought about this for a while and have a couple of ideas. Sorry if its long lol but it'll give you an idea...

My thinking is instead of welding in a typical Y-pipe, welding on just the flange itself (second picture) would be better because it takes up less space and can be cut down, so it can be angled in different ways.

So when its welded on and the valve is fitted, would look similar to this...

I've edited a quick pic that I stole off google. Thinking one of these ways;

1 - Welding it onto the midpipe just before the cat. This would be the cheapest way but if wanting a more professional look, having a pipe welded in connecting the valve to the back of the driver side exhaust tip.

2 - Have it welded on to the catback, top of where it connects to the midpipe and running some pipe along the top of the silencer and straight down or once again into back of the exhaust... This also gives you the possabilaty and space to get a small silencer put in to take out the drone even more.

3- After the cat, going up and a bend taking it back down to build pressure up and dump it straight down or into back of the passenger side exhaust.

To add, most electronic valves come with a dump pipe/tip that bends down, so connecting it onto one of the exhaust tips isn't necessary but looks more professional and makes ensures all the exhaust gasses are pushed straight out the back.

A back street welder quoted me £30-50 for the first method and around £100 for second method with the option of including a silencer, aslong as I get the bits he needs. Wiring not included but very easy and simple to do... Too bad my car is too low to get it on his ramp. Got stuck and destroyed my flexi last time, otherwise I'd have booked it in already
