Hat off to you Garfy, looks like a lot of work, but well worth it.

First pass done and I can see metal :) I reckon a little bit longer with the drill and wire brush set up, another coat of Bild Hammer gloop I should get it far enough down for the painting.

I'm assuming driving it around with bare metal wont hurt too much? Must look up rust formation on line.

Rear drop link on order for the suspension swap, going to look at the side scoops now and see what I can prep on them to be fitted.

I may not be mechanical Del, but I do like to get stuck in on what I can do   8)
Water cooled T25 turbo
Air to air intercooler
440cc injectors
ECU and electronic boost control
2.5" sports exhaust with twin tail pipes

Spent another eight hours under the car this weekend whilst you've all been enjoying yourselves :)
Getting down to more metal than rust now but I have a question about whether to paint the two bits shown.
I think they're drive orientated? Will giving them a coat of paint hurt?
Safe journey home everyone who stopped the night at DD (Maybe next year for me ;) )

A bit late - but.. you can get these great discs - think it's these

They are good cause they won't touch the metal, just the paint and the rust. Wire brushes are a bit too aggressive sometimes.

You won't hurt those driveshafts by painting them - but they are the one bit I didn't bother to paint.  They are v solid and will outlast the rest of the car without repainting.

Garfy

Thanks Frogger, they do look pretty solid, I expect they'll still be there when the rest has fallen apart  ::) I'll leave them out.
Not sure I fancy an angle grinder on my chest under the car on ramps, it all gets a little close Mr Smcknighty  ;) But thanks for thinking of me  ;)

Another gold star award for sustained rust removal Garfy!

On the painting front, I have the idea that if its OK for all the road sh*te to be on these metal parts, its probably OK for shiney black paint too.

Last year, when  I regreased the CV boots I derusted the drive shafts and painted them with no subsequent problem.
