Speed sensor failure

So,
I've had the speed sensor code flag up for about 2 years. From what I gather it only causes eml if doesn't receive any signal at all? So that says to me I could replace any of them and it would work. Using dash command I get no speed reading so that backs this theory for me.

Do we know what type of sensor is used. I checked for resistance and got zilch. So, either they're buggered or they're active sensors?
What's people's bets on?
I had a quick go at prying one out and it was a nightmare. May have another go today in fact. Would hubs be a better option?

Might be wrong here. But think that is why hubs are expensive. Abs is an integral part of it.
To be confirmed or nit by others

I thought it was just the one bolt and get them out.
I do know they're a pain in the backside though. Mine are pretty tight.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Not sure what options are best but want to get rid of the eml before taking to RRR.

Call Dick and get a replacement hub for the broken one.
Probably easiest.
I've never heard of anybody getting a sensor out and not breaking it.

Challenge accepted!! Haha.

I'll speak with dick.

Does this mean all four are gone though? I'm still unsure how to test them.

Get ELMScan Toyota and a proper OBD2 dongle. Shows each speed sensor

Hmm. I have the elm327 and dash command.

Is anyone bringing something better to DD

I'll bring my phone and my obd2 reader.
If we have power, I'll bring laptop and techstream cable. My laptop needs plugging in to use as the battery is knackered

That would be very much appreciated.
I couldn't see them on dash command unfortunately.

This fault has been really bugging me so would definitely like to rectify it.

I know they always break when you take them out but I seem to remember they're only about £40 new, but I could be wrong on that. Might be worth checking though?

So...more research. More learned. Can anyone confirm if this is correct please.

Speedo takes reading from speed sensors. Speedo is working. But OBD reader doesn't clock any speed.
This leads me to believe that Ecu is not receiving the signal. I've had the ecu plugs in and out loads and would've noticed any loose/bent pins etc. and the problem originated years ago.
"Apparently" the display cluster has a module that shapes the speed sensor signal. This could be at fault? Or a loose connection. Don't have the car to check at the moment but would be great if someone knew the ins and outs of the system or had a wiring diagram. I can't seem to find a sausage on it :/

From the wiring diagram the ABS sensors all feed into the ABS ECU.  It feeds out to the ABS actuator but also feeds out on SP1 and WA terminals to the speedometer.  The unit also has terminals DG, TC and TS which connect to the data link connector so it does look as if you are right and the unit offers two separate outputs.

Hope this helps

I don't fancy changing the cluster. Hoping it's a loose connection. Believe it stores odometer data :/

It does help by the way thank you. Just wondering what else it could be. :/.

If your speedo is reading, your wheel sensors are ok.

Get your multimeter out and check voltage and continuity from the 2nd connector from the top, 3rd pin from the bottom right, with clip facing up.
9-14volt.

On ecu, yes?

Continuity to which pin sorry?

And where do you get this info? Lol.

Where do I get one of these manuéls you speak of lol.

I'm guessing there shouldn't be continuity between those?

Will check Friday by the way. Thank you.

As weird as it seems, the ecu actually gets the speed from the dash.
It goes speed/abs sensor, to abs ecu, to dash, to ecu.

So if speedo is working, it's the dash, the ecu, or the wiring in between
...neutiquam erro.

dan944

Hmm. Weird. Annoying! And weird
