Wheel and tyre sizes. Yes that old potato

I recently bought a set of 4 alloy wheels and tyres, used, and in good condition. sizes 195/55/16.   They are Toyota multi spoke alloys stamped JIb ?  on the outside face, [I may take off a wheel to see what is on the inside] off what model car I know not, but they look good!   Problem is they catch the inner plastic liners at each corner when going over speed bumps, ruts, etc.   I can see where they lightly contact  the distorted inner liners,  I intend putting the sagging liners back into position with the help of a heat gun.   Question is, am I committing a mortal sin using these excellent wheels and tyres, which are great road holders and don't white line veer.   They are a mixture of Bridgestone Turnza ER30 front and Dunlop SP to the rear.  Any advise welcome.

Something sounds wrong 16s shouldn't rub especially with such small tyres.
What ET are they?
How many miles on your suspension?

I don't like mixed tyres nor do I like a non staggered setup on the road.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Sounds like wrong off-set to me.

They may be nice wheels ad tyres but they are not suitable for a Roadster.  It looks like you want to be told they're just fine.  I'm afraid they just aren't. ;)

As Scott says, they should fit okay.

Take the wheel off and post up pictures of the wheels(inner and outer with the sizes showing) someone on here will probably recognise them.

OK,  With due deference to Carolyn, 1979scotte, and Treboeth.   Wheels off, Inside information:-    On spokes :-    TOYOTA-16x6JJ-ET45-SJ-TT-X         On hub :-   MADE IN ITALY-HL1705 3b-03.    Did the heat gun thing on the inner wing liners,  refixed with lots of missing plastic studs etc, seems all is order.   Keeping the wheels and tyres,  regardless of any further comments [can't afford to do anything different].   When I bought Eric,  yes its a he, [X862ERC]. the idea was to rescue a cheap fun car, safely maintained at minimal cost.    This I have done so far, although I like to drive with spirit,  I am no longer a boy racer, although I do love the occasional heavy right foot when needs or safe to do so.  See Profile, birthday 9th August.    EIGHTZERO.

Size wise to some extent yes.

Considering the fronts,as the stock size is 185/55/15s then normally if increasing either the first or the last number (the tyre width or wheel diameter) you would want to drop the middle one (the "aspect ratio") in order to keep the tyre diameter close to the original. As you have gone upwards in both width AND diameter on the front but with the aspect ratio unchanged then I'm not surprised they are / were rubbing. Nominally your 195/55/16s would have been a not insignificant 36.4mm (almost inch an' half  :o) taller than stock when new.............

If going to 16s, 195/45/16 would be a more common front fitment which then keeps the tyre diameter alot closer to stock. I should imagine your car steers more slowly but the ride is a bit more plush. If you have solved the rubbing issue then I suppose it's ok - I suspect you may be something of a pioneer  :)

Overall........... I think I'd rather drive on your tyres than the budget ditchfinders many cars at the cheap and cheerful end of the market come on (MR2 roadsters included)

Belatedly,   Thanks K T M for your excellent post.    As for me being a Pioneer call me Johnny Appleseed.   Regarding the origins of my wheels, after researching, using Auto Trader photos, my wheels are from a Toyota Corolla T Sport.   It would appear that other Toyota cars use similar wheels to the original MR2's.   I'll let anyone interested do their own research on that.

Find another donor Corolla T Sport with the same design, but 15's... and then you've got two sets of properly staggered alloys! (to sell or keep for winter wheels)

Dumb me, what's OP.   Anyway BahnStormer, I've got more wheels and tyres than Eddie Stobart, 15s,16s, M & S. Summer etc all probably incorrect for the MR2', but all work OK for me!   So I'll not be going looking for 15"ers!   But interesting craic.

O.P. is forumspeak meaning "the original poster" i.e. the author of the first "post" in the "thread" (which is still forumspeak for the initiator of the discussion. So that would be "kwnelson"  :).  )

An 18 wheeler MR2, now there's a rubbish idea

Once again, thank you KTM for explaining the meaning of OP, I thought that maybe the A had been omitted from between OAP! Who was the wag who suggested 18's?
