I'm struggling to find a guide, I have ordered new headlights, recently I saw a guide that the bumper can be left on and just released at the top to get enough access to the headlight, I guess the wheel arch lining has to be removed, any info much appreciated.

Call the midlife!

It can be left on but it's almost as quick to remove it really.
If you're leaving it on you need to slacken the top row of retainers, then if you  pull the arch liner to one side slightly there's enough room to get your hand in with a 10mm socket and extension bar to undo the fixing screw that goes up into the front wing. Once you've done that you can pull the end of the bumper away enough to get to the 3rd headlight assy screw.
Order some antiseptic and elastoplast too.

Just to confirm there's only one bolt/screw that fixes bumper into the wing also is it best to remove front wheels. I guess it's done by feel rather that seeing the 10mm head bolt....

You can do it without removing the wheel, but yeah it's fiddly

Turn the wheels one way or the other to get better access to the bolts!

I'm sorry I've posted in the wrong thread, but will be right when the headlights arrive.

At last the new headlights have arrived, they are going to look so much better, just hope all goes well when I try to fit them on Saturday, I'm assuming the fixing at the bottom of the light is for a nut.

The fixing in the bottom outer of the light is for a nut. You get to it from the wheel arch but will be obvious with the bumper off.

Thanks for all your help not as scary as I thought, the left headlight does not seem to fit quite as well as it did, not a lot of room for adjustment.
