How do you get round the issue of the gearbox being the wrong way round? I.e. in a corolla or celica the engine is at the front and gearbox goes back whereas in the 2 it's the other way round?

The mr2 is designed to accommodate the same engine the other way around. Not an issue

I was disappointing with my compressor conversion in the MR2. perhaps i should have had the engine refreshed at the same time as it had done 155,000 miles. Now on refreshed engine with rotrex, thats another story...!
2004 Red edition. 2ZZ engine with Rotrex 30 94 supercharger,90mm pulley. Link Storm ECU. Charge cooler. Custom Meggalian exhaust.Uprated fuel pump, regulator and rail.840 injectors.323 BHP at the hubs. Meistier coil overs. Matt under body brace. Front and rear, upper and lower braces,list goes on...

That's pretty high mileage mate, the engine I'm looking at has 68k on it. Out of curiosity anyone know the cost of a rebuild?

Different engine but same theory.

Headcase had a rebuilt one in a MK2 noticeably better than the on in my mk3.
I would always recommend a rebuild. Wish I had it done when I bought it instead of  supercharging would be on the road now rather than sitting about in pieces.

If done correctly as good as new. Maybe better if you port and polish.
Most 2zz are run ragged it's well worth doing.
