Luggage Racks...

OK, so I know that the common moan about the MR2 is a lack of luggage space, honestly so far day to day I can't say I'm too concerned, yes it can be a bit fiddly but there's plenty space for most things in the cabin storage (even my golf clubs!) and I may well look at making some of the Frunk Adjustments (flipping wheel / moving alarm) as again it looks like a bag or two would fit fine.

However, unexpectedly the wife has actually taken a liking to the car.. and has agreed that she would be happy to take the car when we take a weekend away up north, but I was wondering, I've seen that a few folk have used luggage racks to add some extra capacity and I'm keen to pick one up, albeit I know I'd need to be careful of heat!

But has anyone any recommendations for a rack that I can remove fairly easily? Would prefer something that actually tightens on rather than "suckers"!

I had la prealpina luggage rack years ago for my black pfl. No complaints. Rubber feet, locking, all good for a large suitcase

Hey thanks, I suspect that may be the one I've seen actually!

Here's the link to manufacturer part.

Just a word of warning - I've seen loads of images of this rack installed the wrong way round, when searching on Google images.

Haha it's funny I saw a few like that and though, surely the higher side is meant to stop the luggage going into the car? Lol

Do an eBay search for "MR2 luggage rack" and (for new items anyway) you will get one result at £100 and several others at around £250

I believe that one of the £250 items is the rack that Del mentions.

Personally I think £250 is quite a lot of cash for something I shall use maybe twice a year, so I bought the cheap one which was absolutely fine for a 100 mile blast along the A1 and 60 miles of twisties while loaded with the wife's suitcase.

It does the job is nice and light and looks ok. I'm quite sure the dearer options will be sturdier though, so if looking to tour Europe loaded with camping equipment they are maybe worth the extra.

Someone had a rack listed on here recently for £40 complete with the bootlid it"s bolted to  Nothing in the thread to say its sold.

I have either that larealpina rack or one damn near identical, can't remember now, but it's been great. I use it exclusively for heading off camping with my daughter where I stuff every nook, cranny and cubby hole with my gear, but all the bulky stuff I put in two 40l ortleib rack packs which go side by side on the rack, normally they sit on two small aluminium tables I have about the same dimensions as the bags (which helps prevent the bags sagging down in the middle of the bars) and then a few small ratchet straps and it's all good!
Only minor issue I had was I had to put some clear plastic film on the rubber mounts where they touch the boot as I noticed they had a slight reaction with the laquer which had to be machine polished.

Thanks folks will opt for the dearer Italian one, thats the one I had saw before and liked the look of.
Out of interest what sort of bags / cases are folk using on them?

I think the wicker work type are best suited to the Morgan!
Never had a rear rack but a few roof racks. Before the plastic moulded boxes were available I made a box from plywood with a plastic sheet cover, we are talking old time here.
I believe the problem with a rack is bags can so easily be removed by tea leaves.
My thought would be to use a moulded plastic suitcase or perhaps a motor bike box or two, that could be locked onto the rack. Not tea leaf proof, what is? But it would slow them down.

I have a hard case which I used on the back.
It's supposed to look a bit retro. Because it's a hard case, it's pretty weatherproof too.

Luggage Rack purchased, fair enough arrived with a missing part but thats getting sorted this week, went for the La-Parina (or something like that).
Planning on using a soft-side Eastpak bag that I bought for going to Italy in February but wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a waterproof cover or bag to go over it? (Esp being in Scotland!) - could buy a rucksack carrier and try that but worried it could fly off, was thinking maybe a roof-bag which I could tuck and strap around the case?

How big is the bag? Consider a stuff sack/drybag and just put the other bag inside it?

Actually just found one hidden in the deep recesses of my cupboard - possibly not fully waterproof but will do fine this weekend - the forecast is dry anyway!
Might invest in another and double up for going to Cardiff in November!

Rubble sacks are usually big and cheap enough, line the snazzy one you've just found with one and nobody will know [emoji23]

This is pretty much what I used to do, heavy duty black binbag (or a couple of them cut open and taped together. Not pretty, bit noisy but it worked for me  :)
