During my "research" amongst the cobwebs of the www I came across the following review, updated in June 2017:

https://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/toyota/mr2-w30/history/

Amongst other things it mentioned this:

"TF300s did not have the plastic rear undertray so any problems with the vulnerable rear crossmember are easily spotted. The consequence of this and the sports exhaust is a bit more noise".

As I've not seen mention of this on here previously I wonder if it is correct.
If so I wonder why this change was decided.

While I am of the view that the under tray should be retained I am aware that some on here have removed them, perhaps this " finding" , if correct will help with that justification.

You will see that reference is also made to the subframe problem.

The tf300 did come with the rear nappy, I'm guessing that the car they were reviewing / testing had this removed.

Thanks for that @s12vea -
And I thought that because it appeared in print/ on the www it must be true! ;)

I think the nappy is very region-specific. The UK ones all came with a nappy as standard issue as there's less concerns about overheating and more concerns about road "gunk".... same reason we got the LSD as standard.... but because they're not standard, lots of people take them off to keep an eye on rear subframes / keep the engine bay cooler.

I'm pretty sure that all TF 300 entered the uk as a standard UK SPEC MR2. The seats, door card trim, tte exhaust and badging were simply added by Toyota uk.  So they all had a nappy that needed altering to accomythe twin pipes.

I have replaced the leather door card trim on my TF as it was coming away. Sure enough the original cloth was underneath. You see it a lot on TF's advertised on auto trader etc

Not a TF, but mine came off and stayed off after it nearly caught fire. Well into the smouldering stage.
