Written my how to guide for the Variable Valve Timing Actuator / Timing Gear replacement.

Main content moved over to how-to section here: https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?topic=66483.0

Thought I'd open this up to any comments before I move this into the 'How to' section?

Phenomenal how to Stu. Almost absolutely idiot proof and the pics and colour coding are fantastic. An example for future how tos.
Only tiny thing I could do with one more line on is a bit better description of the RTV sealant application.

Straight into the How To.
Thanks heaps

An excellent How to.
A long time since I had a camshaft off but I could imagine doing it quite straightforwardly with those instructions.
As Patrick mentioned- the sealant application could be clarified.
Torqueing of the 14mm end bolts while the cam shaft is unsupported made me wince a little, but maybe it needs to be done prior to resetting the actuator.

Thanks both, I've made a couple of amendments to make those two things a bit clearer:

  • Amended RTV picture to show the 'before' packing sealant and added a description to say about putting a big dollop there.
  • I've now mentioned to put it on a stable surface / bench when torquing... I stupidly didn't take any pictures of the camshaft when it was out other than the one posted, I'd like to point out that I didn't torque it whilst it was sitting in my engine bay! :) Due to clearance, I couldn't torque it with either a socket or my crows foot when it was in situe as the bolt goes partially 'inside' the actuator. It is supposed to be torqued prior to install as it can apparently damage the locking pin if it's locked first

Yep - straight into the How To section!!!

Rather than be a high-handed moderator... do you mind if I add to it, that you need to use the adjustable to position the cams correctly on the chain?  (Not just to hold while tightening the centre bolt.)

There's a couple of other very minor bits that could be amended... I'll PM you tomorrow?

A cracking how to - Mr Haynes could learn a lot about coloured text and annotated photos!

Great work, I wouldn't dare get that far into my engine!

I think it also serves as a great guide for anyone needing to replace their rocker cover gasket.
