Coding of key

I have recently purchased a 2000 MK3 but it only came with 1 grey key. I have purchased a second remote key, had it cut and managed to program it to work on the central locking. It turns in the ignition barrel but won't start due to the immobiler not being copied.
Is there any way I can rectify this problem without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

You just need to program the key for the immobiliser part...you've only half programmed it.
There is a help file on this topic on here in the files section. You should be able to use the search function to find it.

I've followed the guide a few times and managed to successfully set up the key for remote and immobiliser functionality really easily [emoji1360]

The grey key is your Master key

Also the sequence has to be completed in the stated time

A) coding additional sub key
B) coding additional master key

I thought grey was valet and blocked from adding additional keys... I'll check the docs I've got floating around here.

edit: sorry @moredun, but I'm pretty sure I've just confirmed my suspicions - grey is the valet key and not suitable to initiate coding: all official coding instructions for black/grey keys start "obtain one programmed black key"... and the notes for the grey key are "please note grey key will not operate boot lock". I was about to post screen grabs of those bits of the documents, but I'm not sure how strict the copyright policing is.
