Aftermarket intakes

There's been a bit of talk on here, most of which goes over my head, about such things as airflow and intake resonators. I had been thinking of getting an aftermarket intake but am now educated enough to realise I don't know what I'm doing.

I had been thinking of the PPE kit as it gets recommendations and appears to suck air from a cooler part of the engine bay (behind the battery, near the intake). I understand that the benefit with my stock ECU would be aural only and that's fine with me so long as I'm not giving up any performance in return. The PPE has a small external pipe which people seem to block off but I wonder if it's intended for a resonator. Either way, being right next to the MAF it must cause some turbulence.

So my question is, is an aftermarket intake like this trouble-free on a relatively stock engine (except for manifold/exhaust) or am I opening a can of worms just for the sake of a sporty noise?

Nope trouble free. The 1zz is quite tolerant to it and the ecu is magic for compensation.

Anything you gain or lose will be pretty much entirely unnoticeable.

Tons of us run the aftermarket intakes. The noise is fun :)
The blocked off pipe is usually for atmospheric pressure for crank venting or turbo bypass valves.
...neutiquam erro.

Thanks, that puts my mind at rest. Bring on the noise!
