Hi all

So my MR2 only has 57k on the clock and it has an oil leak from the chain tensioner area. I know this is a common problem so I replaced the whole tensioner with a new one including O ring. It was still leaking after this, so I took the chain cover off, removed all the old FIPG and resealed with loctite 5980, at the same time I replaced the valve cover gasket too.

Thought this would fix it but the fact I am making the post means it is still leaking :( It appears to still be coming from the chain tensioner or even the head gasket (but I doubt that). Anyone else had this before? Did toyota make a revised O ring?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Carolyn

Lot's of us have had this problem.

The Toyota O ring is rubbish.  PM me your address and I'll send one that will seal.

While the tensioner is out, rough up the inner surface of the hole it goes in with some 400 grit wet&dry.

Yeah everything is nice and tight, checked and double checked when putting it all back together. It does look like its the tensioner.

Cheers Carolyn will send you a PM. It would be annoying if it is just the O ring as I spent all day taking off the chain cover and resealing but I suppose it rules it out :)
