Wet under the carpet

A pfl, bought last year, sat outside all winter, fitted with a hardtop. Only occasional use, mainly because the gearbox needs replaced.  It was getting condensation on the rear window, & a slight dampness smell, so I opened a window a hair & that largely sorted the condensation. I would frequently feel around the carpets to make sure the rain wasn't getting in.
The only piece of carpet I saw signs of dampness on was in front of the gear lever console.....a weird crystal-like effect, but not 'wet'.

I took a seat out to replace the engine-cover cable yesterday, and found that the sound deadening underneath was sodden wet.
The rear of the carpet was lifted & water was running out of the material & pooling on the floorpan. When the bungs were removed I had puddles under the car.

The whole carpet is now out. Both front underlays were also wet, the passenger side a bit worse.  Sodden.

The water when it drained was clean. No real smell from the rear underlays, but the front one's have a bit of a whiff.

The hood drain holes are clear.  There is no evidence the rear bin area has ever been wet.   Apparently there are drains under the windscreen wipers, & they drain to the inner wings.

A pic taken of the passenger side front bulkhead shows white-ish lines on the plastic.....could that be water or condensation running down?

Any suggestions as to where ingress could be?

The front firewall/bulkhead has a couple of bungs in it from memory. As you have the carpets out have a scout around that area.
I have a piccy somewhere if you get stuck.

As Stu says, in the passenger footwell bulkhead, under the fan blower box there's a grommet (or should be) that goes straight through to the frunk compartment. I've got cables through mine so should definitely be there, failing that it could be the heater matrix leaking but with that amount of water you'd expect to see the level loss in the expansion tank.
Does it have aircon?

60% of the time it works everytime...

Had a look.  I can't see any holes without a grommet in.  Lifting the liner that drops down the front bulkhead I felt the sound deadening material & it is dry, - no signs on the paintwork of any water stains.
The coolant level hasn't dropped.
It does have aircon.

I didn't taste the water that was in it, but it was clear, & the wadding doesn't have any chemical smell about it.

Aircon condensation then I reckon, there should be a drain that should drain to outside the car. Probably perished or blocked and coming into the car.

Could well be a leaky door seal.  Happened before.

Open window sounds like a good candidate to me.

As I said above, it was only opened a hair, but the carpets & upper surfaces were checked to make sure rain wasn't getting through there.

This may well be the problem it was a common thing, something to do with not finishing the seal under the windscreen. Didn't read the whole thread above but I reckon the answers in there somewhere....
