This morning, with my supervision (and hands-on on the tricky bits), Richard adjusted the valve gaps on his little black beauty.

That engine has 140,000 miles on it and it's running as sweet as you could wish.  Bit of lacquer build-up but nothing alarming.

Amazing what regular service and maintenance can do!

Nice one Richard. Satisfying isn't it?

Many thanks again Carolyn for walking me through it, not something I would ever had tackled by myself!

Running & sounding a lot smoother on the run home, great to have the little oil leaks fixed too.

Very satisfying, leaving for North Coast 500 this weekend ;D

its not fairrrrrrr, Why did my very looked after 2 with 60,000 miles decided to send the conrod through the sump yet yours is still kicking with over twice as many miles. Great job though. Seems like Carolyn is a great teacher

This I was wondering myself. We don't even see this happening with cars running 10psi of boost.

Poor maintenance perhaps or lots of track miles?
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Bought it off an old couple, Can't see them taking it on the track. 1 Owner. Im just super unlucky

It's been known for the lad at the local garage to take a customer's car for the weekend and thrash the hell out of it.

That's my guess.

Had it for nearly 13 years and has always been very reliable.

1 owner when i bought it, serviced at main dealer, had a deal on MOT/servicing so went back there a few times then I did it.

I did look at a few cars, nearly bought a red edition at the same garage but mine was immaculate and clearly had been very well looked after, had a little over 40,000 when I bought it.

I'm sure some of it is just luck as with any car, I would have thought buying from an old couple was a pretty good bet too  ;)

Be very careful crossing roads with that kind of luck.
It's not a part that should break under normal use imho.
Its not even a high miler.
Were you wringing it's neck around corners with no oil in it?

Even then... I mean, I'm woefully unsympathetic to my block but it's still going strong. Throwing a rod is hardcore shizzle.

Massively miss-shifting into 2nd?....i know someone who has done that.... Don't remember his name.... :)
