How much heat-wrap do I need?

All done... revs out v nicely, deeper burble and definitely makes a few more pops and bangs on the over-run!

Ended up asking Pat (Headcase) to do it - mostly 'cos there was no way I was going to get a flat space to jack it up for MONTHS... but the top bolts were crumbling anyway, so I couldn't even get the PlusGas in there... Pat had to cut the heatshield off...

Can´t say I like the wrap look but hey, no discussing taste; some like the mother, some the daughter and I usually both, just not thís time ;-)

I thought the wrap was pretty much mandatory... I was very tempted by a nice orange ceramic coating, but I think the cost was going to be more than the manifold + install cost together! Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Definitely not mandatory. 

It helps. 
As for ceramic, I'd definitely not "waste" it on a ToyoSport and to be fair, as good as it is, it's not necessary. It's for thr track folk or people with deep wallets

Nah, there's no jury needed. Hot gasses flow faster. Period. 

Wrapping keeps heat in the manifold, increasing temp.

As I wrote, there is a grain of truth in every good myth.

I wasn't sure, but I just thought if I was deleting the heatshield, then I needed something to stop too much heat building up in that part of the engine bay...

At very least this way, it heats up the cat faster and moves the heat to somewhere with better airflow to dissipate it out the engine bay... and presumably helps with pops and bangs... which EVERYBODY knows make your car go much faster...

It cost £12 and took <1hr... shiny silver looks better though, just a shame it won't stay that way...

Logical thought I totally agree with. I looked for a header with the brackets to refit the OEM heat shields to avoid having to do the same.

Decent idea, but mine looked like shrapnel afterwards... so I sould have been buying a new one... I'm happy with mine as it is right now, just hoping it lasts...

The ceramic stuff should last ok.
