Boxster headlamps?

I just read it agaín in a 2000 roadtest; that the MR2 Spyder headlamps resemble, are styled upon, the Boxster ones.

I really, réally don´t see that. I never did. Let me illustrate it:
Here is the Boxster ´97 - ´04 set:




Now hére is the ´05- one:



and thát I dó see. The thing is that this headlamp comes when the Spyder is already running out.
So, if anything the Boxter unit is based on the MR2 one or what?!

They are quite similar - especially once on the car the way they protrude upwards.

I find it rather annoying how motoring journalists time and again compaired with Boxster styling without doing their homework.
If they would have, they would have observed not that the MR styling was nóthing like the Boxster concept shown to the public ánd that Toyota had saved the 911 and made the Boxster possible...

During the 1990s, Porsche was facing financial troubles and rumours of a proposed takeover were being spread. Toyota was mentioned by name as one of the interested parties!
The signature air-cooled flat-6 of the 911 was reaching the limits of its potential. Stricter emissions regulations world wide further forced Porsche to think of a replacement of the air-cooled unit.
In order to improve manufacturing processes, Porsche took the aid of Toyota whose consultants would assist in the overhaul of the Zuffenhausen manufacturing facility introducing mass production techniques which would allow Porsche to carry out production processes more efficiently. Porsche had realised that in order to keep the 911 in production, it would need radical changes.

The 911 would no longer be hand-built, but mass produced – it also merged design and development of the 996 with the new entry-level 986 Boxster, allowing both cars to share components. Cost savings of 30 per cent versus the outgoing 993 were quoted, a figure almost unheard of in the industry.

How can you not see it lol? Theyre only missing the little extended bit on the side to look more alike. The headlight/indicator placement is pretty much the same and as you said styled upon, not an exact copy. The MR2 styling as a whole is Porsche like tbh.

Easy; I don´t.
More GT40 even.

Perception is reality but Í do not see any likeness with either a 911 or either the Boxster concept and 1997 release.
Imo it is a more a Manga based, almost exagerated, fun design.
