Hardtop blanking plate bolt size

Anyone know what sized bolts I need for the hardtop blanking plates?

They were never bolted down on mine since owning the car but having recently lost one of them, don't want the same happening again with the new ones.

M6 (diameter) x 1.5 (thread pitch) x  10mm (thread length).

Despite various searches of things the bay of E and giggle. I have yet to find a simple ready-reckoner tool that can identify what ever bolt/nut I have in may hand.

Dia - pitch - metric - imp - whitworth.

Recently had call to go in to a local fixings shop. Been looking for an excuse to go in for ages.

I was looking for a nut to suit the spring bolt that fixes the back box to the cat. (malian related)

To my horror, I was served by a woman. :o
Me. I want a nut to fit this.
She. What is it, metric or imperial?
Me. Toyota.
She. Another one! She proclaimed to rest of the staff. (no idea what they want but expect me to sort it)
Which she did in no time at all.
Its an m10 1.25
I looked at her like a new best friend with her dirty oil stained hands from handing countless nuts n bolts, because muppets like me, don't know what they want.

Cannot wait to go back.
The shop is. All screwed up. Cavendish Road Leicester.

Customer floor space is 2-3m2 max. the rest is just stuff. The sort of stuff you need. If not right now, but you know you will.

I'm back there tomoz for some 50mm M10 bolts and tri lock nuts. (whatever they are) I'll ask my new best friend to explain.

Thanks for the link. Have not seen that sort of thing before. They look a bit more complicated than I'm looking for.

Trilock nuts are of all metal construction with three indents in an extra 'collar' of metal, that act as the 'lock'. Nyloc nuts use plastic, which ain't the best plan on an exhaust. Not only is 'Trilock' a thing, it's the correct thing in this application.

I guess one way to measure pitch (without buying a pitch gauge) could be to keep a few labelled examples of most used pitches? There can't be more than a handful used by Toyota, can there?

When you've worked with nuts and bolts for most of your life you can pretty much identify a bolt just by looking at it. It's like anything in life, there's no substitute for experience. I'm pretty sure that had a large part in Carolyn knowing what bolt it was.

Mikey is correct.  When you've handled as many nuts and bolts as I have, you just know by looking at it.

However, it is worth saying that almost all the M6 and M8 fasteners on our cars are 1.5 mm pitch. The original Toyota stuff is very high quality and tends to be flanged and plated.  Stuff from the fastener shop will suffice, but is often of lower quality.

Anything bigger tends to be finer thread (1.25mm and even 1mm) and with quite special lengths for plain section and threaded section.  These are not generally 'off the shelf' items at your friendly local fastener supplier, and have to be ordered from Toyota.

Which means it is always good to hold on to any spares generated by dismantling.

I've accumulated drawers full. ;D
