Today at work, one of my staff said that the Roadster in the early days had a different engine than later ones. I said that I thought they were always the 1.8 vvti. I'm sure I'm right. I know about the SMT but again, sure that was the same! Can anyone confirm I'm right or wrong please?  >:(

I do believe you're right. Maybe they were thinking about previous gen mr2, the mk1 or mk2?

No he definitely meant Roadster, apparently he was going to buy one when they first came out but the Totota salesman never rang him back so he thought sod it & brought a Boxter instead. Tut tut, he missed out. ;D

The two books I have only list one and the same 1ZZ-FE engine for all of the SW30 run. Maybe a confusion stemming from the piston confusion?

Chilli Girl

I thought I was correct, after all I've been driving roadsters for over 13 years.

There is only one engine in the our MR2s, He is wrong, all I can thin of is he heard about the revised oil ring or something.

Chilli Girl

Thank you all - he was so adamant, I was almost doubting myself!

Maybe he's talking about the TTE Turbo or thinks the import MRS with the fancier TRD bumpers has a different engine?

The take away is.
Whatever he thinks. He is wrong. You are right.

I would say the onus is on him to prove his point.
