Hi all

All the lightweight people out there.
Rear crash bar. Currently not running one on my car. Because race car.. but question
Its so far back I cannot see it adding any positive effect to the handling. As it's well behind the subframe and the subframe is solid and ties the two legs together as does the top strut brace.

What are your thoughts.. it's not driven on road before anyone says about that 😁

Have any affect I just see it as weight loss from rear of car which is always positive.

Agreed. There's a subframe there and also there's the top subframe as well, welded in.
I see race cars use an aftermarket "crash bar" to mount the wing and or other exhaust/aero stuff.
But... In a crash, I guess it would stop your expensive engine bits from getting smushed
...neutiquam erro.

Ropey racing have produced a rear crash bar (don't know if it's lighter than standard) with the idea of it being modular with their other products.

Being un incurable weight weenie have looked at it several times and... have concluded that it does add structural rigidity.
Have a good look at the rear suspension: Not all forces are supported by the subframe.
Same thing engine.
You can easily see that the rear transverse beam is very much needed but it sits only at the top and the crash bar closes the cube at the bottom.

Also it links the two sides of the car between the towing eyes, and therefore it probably helps to spread the load across the back. Without the bar if you tried to tow the car backwards, it would possibly damage something.

their V2 aluminium bash bar looks like it will do the job nicely. you can bolt on a wing and I think they are going to produce a rear diffuser at some point.
