Brake discs - are Halfrauds actually really good value?

Mr Lazy

In addition to thinking about rust proofing (as per my other thread), I've also been looking into the cost of brake pads and discs. Two front and two rear Pagid discs would usually cost £301.96 in total at Euro Car Parts but, thanks to their latest sale, the price has come down to £181.16. A bargain then...or so I thought. You see, I thought I would also check out the price at Halfords, just to laugh at how ridiculously expensive they are. To my amazement though, they are selling them for £108.58 for the four. No mention of a sale, just their standard prices. Am I missing something? Do Pagid make different grades of discs? Or have I stumbled across a bargain?

Euro standard price is always over the odds.
They always have a sale on.
Also try amazon and ebay and your local motor spares.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Got to love these cars for cost of maintenance.
I wager you could not buy a set of discs for an entry level boxster for the same money.

Ardent

Very happy with the pagids on mine. No rust. Holding up very well.

@Mr Lazy
I do believe you have found a bargain, MR2 Ben have been offering Pagid at £178 for some time and that I thought was a competitive price.
As for the rust resistance of Pagid discs I can confirm that from my experience of them on my daily.

Mr Lazy

Great, thanks chaps! @Ardent, I'm so glad I didn't try to scrape the money together for an old Boxster. I'd love to drive one, but it would have been a total money pit.

£108 is pretty good to just walk in & buy. The rears are usually more difficult to get & dearer.

But if you had bought on ebay with 20% offer you'd get for under £100 delivered.

Edit......  I thought current ebay offer expired last night, but it ends tonight.

£93 from Eurocarparts using the 20%.    If you choose the options including pads, maybe effectively even cheaper?

Blueprint (as used by me extensively on track) all round are circa £120.

I've given them absolute death, and they have stood up to it amazingly well. Highly recommend.

They're not difficult to find on ebay Dan, but the 20% off (+ additional 5%) ended midnight.

Mr Lazy

I've only just seen these more recent posts. It seems like there are some cracking deals to be found out there! I actually ordered the discs from Halfrauds (having not seen the later posts) and picked them up today. I must admit, I do value being able to buy locally from an actual store rather than Ebay and I am happy to pay a small premium for it. If anything is wrong with a part then I can take it straight back the same day.

Bossworld

I've got Borg and Beck all around, I think it ended up costing sub £50 for the four.  Amazon often have end of line items reduced to pennies, I did a thread on here a couple of years back but it's worth an occasional proactive search (e.g. my replacement clutch slave was about £7).

Just bought a full set of discs for £91.20 from TCB Preformance   ;D   shipped

Are the referenced lower prices for Pagid discs or A.N. Other and if so are they rust resistant in the way that Pagid are?

At the risk of hijacking my own post, what's the best way to get in touch with TCB? I tried phoning them the other day regarding a different part but no-one answered.

In my experience "the best way" to get in touch with someone is via telephone, I believe it is more direct. If the first call doesn't get picked up wait half an hour and call again. Be aware of business hours, lunch and comfort breaks.
Dependant upon the situation, and I was working in commerce before many modern methods of communication, a written message, at one time this was a letter, followed by a phone call.

Mr Lazy

Fair enough. I did try a couple of times (during working hours) but he was obviously busy. I'll try again tomorrow.
