Hi, so I've got your attention 😄
After good advise this morning I removed wheel bay plastics to check cv joint,,,, oh dear, but another time. Having removed Jack and can of brake fluid I could not undo the bolt for spare wheel ( looks like somebody has had grips on it before), then it was just turning n not coming out. I had to use a crowbar to break the plastic cap off! Got spare wheel out and it's never seen a road! In its nice bag but covered in brake fluid and the well had a lake 2" deep of the stuff, but that's another story.iv got a stainless plate with rubber glued on using original bolt to clamp back down so all is well.
But please check to see if you can get your spare out as if I'd been out in countryside and had a puncture it would really have spoilt my day (politely)

Really good tip.  Well worth checking.
I flipped my spare as a "lockdown job" (amongst others!) to buy some frunk space, and after cutting and re threading the remainder, gave it a liberal coating of copper thread grease.

Good tip.
Not that I ever carry it, which I'm sure will bite me in the ass one day

I bought a genuine Toyota (RAV4 I think) puncture kit which comprises of puncture goo, and a compressor.

I don't run with a spare wheel, and haven't for years.

Haven't needed to use the kit thankfully, and it's an awful lot lighter than the spare wheel.

Check the use by date of the goo, it isn't everlasting, may have gone hard when the time comes...

Plus a lot of tyre companies won't touch a tyre which has been repaired with it.

Definitely a good idea to remove and grease before needed.

The spare wheel flip is a great mod and should be one everyone does so a good plan to remove it before you start that!

I dont carry a spare as my battery lives in the front but carry an inflator can and puncture repair kit and pump.

One top tip if you are driving with the space saver and are stopped by the police is to say you are not far from your destination though....

Yes, remember the puncture goo tends to wreck your tyre so make sure it is unreparable before putting that in (or expect to have to replace the tyre).

Also remember that your spare tyre is now old (even the newest tyre is 14 years old) so may be hard and brittle and my just pop as soon as you put it on. Its something people never change with spacesavers.

I much preferred to have a full size spare and swap them round the car. (I know not an option on the 2)

Since January '63 I believe I have likely had more replacement windscreens, including one rear screen, than punctures / flat tyres needing the spare to be fitted.
Probably 5 / 6 with the glass being the higher number!
(But then, I do check/ pump my tyres up occasionally)

The first time I believe I used a space saver iirc was just outside Salisbury, home was over 150 miles North then.
Double down side was I was aware of what space savers are capable of if driven too fast.

That might be right Jane, now that Foxy has moved away.

Where did you get that wisdom from?

Used it several times and it is a mess but can be cleaned off.
Have basically the same stuff in several bicycle tyres. Needs to be replaced yearly; same story.

I got told it of several tyre fitters a few years ago. Maybe the newer stuff doesnt but I can only go of what I was told by a professional at the time. And no, they werent just trying to sell me a new tyre.

That's what my tyre fitter said.

It's an absolute pain in thr ass to remove the gunk so 9 times out of 10 they'll either say its not repairable

Now we are on the subject anyway: I advise all my gfs to buy a bottle of the foam or buy a bottle for her. Will give a simple instruction/explanation of how to use it.
A puncture always occurs at inconvenient moments/places and even with road assistance in the mobile, it is safer still to use the spray can than wait at the road side for an hour.
