Knock from steering column

I drove over a speed bump earlier and the car made a loud knock sound, and since then, every vibration in the road causes a knock sound. Dont think it is a plastic rattle. It sounds like it's coming from above my feet, in the steering column or something. Maybe further forward in the car though.

Without tearing the car apart or having a mechanic diagnose it, any guesses as to what it could possibly be?
Steering and suspension both feel normal.

Sounds like the steering U joint.  Or a track rod end.  Or a lower ball joint.

That wasn't much help was it?

It needs to be inspected by someone who knows.  As it's steering related, it should be checked out.

If it was sudden, after a speed bump, I would suspect a broken spring.

Like all these suggestions.
Like broken spring the best.
No way of knowing without looking and any of the above would be good enough reasons to take it off the road.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I have the same knock on mine, i'm embarrased to say it's been there longer than I can remember but its took 6 years to go from a knock that only happened on a certain bend, to a knock that happens a lot over very light bumps. It sounds to come from just above my feet to the right (about where the rack is). It flys through the MOT every year but I always tell them it knocks on the osf. Every time i jack up the car and check everything, I cant find any play in anything. In the last year or so I have first replaced the strut top mountings and inspected the dampers and assosiated parts also replaced the anti roll bar links and arb bushes. (no difference).
I am due some front dampers and it could easily be these.
But when I worked at Toyota lots of corollas did this after 30000 miles or so, I had an AE82 that did it, the workshop foreman knew what it was as he had had this issue before, he said it was rack ends also called tie rods,  (not track rod ends) he said i would struggle to find play in them on the ramp, and even pulling on them with all my weight , with someone in the car wiggling the steering you couldn't feel any play but after replacing them the knock was gone.
Rack ends are about £15 each and at £10 each for track rod ends (all bilstein) changing them both is something I keep meaning to do, just means booking in for tracking as well.
But like other people have said it could be any of the above.
Let us know what you find.
