Hi all, had the rear end up today and was suprised to see no X member rot at all. Not nappy fitted so that was good. Checked the handbrake activation n it was fine. Found out the zorst is full stainless so that's another plus for me. The small amount of brake pipe which is metal I treated so should be ok.
This car never fails to suprise me, so I can confirm that it was well cared for.
Changing the gearbox oil revealed its had a new box fitted, I think professionally as all the bolts are shiny new.
I keep looking for stuff to be wrong but mechanically it is outstanding.
I would want abit more bling but technically it is sound. I hope to have it for along time to come. She's done 115k but the Yaris is still strong at 136k so life in the beast yet??

I reckon the MR2 is a bit like Trigger's broom. The only reason one would get written off is because of an accident. 

They're so easy to fix up and maintain and surprisingly rust-resistant.

I would advise changing the gear box oil if you don't no if it's been done.
Easy job n not as daunting as the how to job but  well worth finding out what yrs contains. Mine contained the necessary 2 ltr but it was mucky stuff n I replaced with clear 4l
The engine oil was pretty shit also so chang get that 3.7ltr will do it with a filter.

I'm assuming it's a typo for GL 4 which is the class/rating of the fluid for the 2...

Pretty sure there is another hole and when the fluid comes out you plug it and stop filling.

The fluid should be flung around inside the gearbox casing.
It shouldn't be completely full.

Thats my understanding anyway.

Correct.
But 2 or 2.1 litres is spec. So all good.

The top "filling hole" is a speedo drive position for other vehicles.
The drain hole is below the gear box.
The filling hole, that also serves as a level for filling is on the side of the gear box.
The oil can be filled via the side hole from above with a tube and funnel. When oil comes back out of the filling hole it should be full.
The speedo plug is used by some to fill but I understand it can be tight to remove as sealed with an O ring.
As above always prudent to measure what comes out to make sure it's empty and no losses due to leaking. Similarly to measure what goes in.

As an alternative to "tube and funnel" fill, i used a cheapo oil syringe and filled directly into the side fill hole.  You need to be under the car to get the old stuff out so decided to stay there for the filling.

A very handy multi purpose tool for just about all fluids bar gasoline and windscreen wash.
I use it for tubeless fluid in the bike tyres too, even handy when a dog has eaten too much horse dung and gets clogged up at the rear.

In the 60's gear oil came in a tubular shape plastic container, similar shape to the original Fairy dish wash liquid.
The top was equipped with a length of clear plastic tube and the oil could be squeezed into the box.

@Petrus I guess there is some degree of caution when changing usage of your syringe.
