Hello.
I love th black stuff tbh as you can see where you have sprayed which is satisfiying. I can agree that rubbing down/ primining/ painting is agreeable but I live in the real world where time is important. Some don't have the luxury of garage or second cars.
If you're u are buying I would be happy that someone has been interested enough to get under and spray as that proves a point. Not to mask things but to preserve. End of day do you want an untouched 2 ( rusty in usual places ) or 1 that's been cared for ??? The comment on walking away if it's got black on really got to me. It's a 20 yr old car for gods sake.

Would tend to agree.  I bought a mk2 MR2 a few years back and the saving grace was that someone had gone through the trouble of undersealing it.  Must have added years to it's lifespan!

Although having used Waxoyl I actually prefer the Bilt Hamber clear under coat instead.  Nowhere near as messy.

If a quality job was done in the first place then all is well.
Surely though you must agree that there are plenty of unscrupulous people out there that would cover corrosion up rather than repair.
It's horses for courses.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

There are and they would!
I may have mentioned on here previously but at the risk of repeating myself a true story of car purchase, by my Father in Law a welder, he frequently did legitimate work for a car sales business close to his work place, so almost a "Mate".
He wanted a replacement car and so went to see his "Mate" who provided him with a Mk1 Escort, this was in the '60's so a relatively new used car then.
Not knowing the background of the purchase I had a look over and under it. I found it had a welded joint in the middle / across the width of the underside of the car.
Fortunately the job had not been finished off with a high build undercoat and so remained visible.
The car was returned the next morning and all money repaid.

I would be almost certain the weld ran right around the middle of the car, "cut and shut" rebuilding of 2 halves of separate accident damaged identical cars was a common pastime, those were the days....
