Lazy Speaker Upgrade

I don't mind making spacers etc, it's just re-wirring that really gets on my nerves, so I was wondering.

I have a 2001 mr2, could I just replace the current 6.5 inch speakers with some other 6.5 coaxials ?, leaving the tweeters in place, just connect the cables on the current speakers to the new ones ?

I just want a bit more definition in the bass. s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

Yes that fine to do just reapply the wires from the stock to the new speakers - simple job!

I was planning a similar mod, but time is killing me those days s:? :? s:?

Could anyone suggest which speaker would be the best replacement for the stock ones? I am also looking for more bass definition when listening to my reggea music! Ya mon! s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Frankly, if you're going to go to the trouble of pulling the doors apart, making spacers, and farting around installing a set of mid/bass drivers, you may as well take the extra 10-15 minutes required per door and install a set of proper tweeters too. It's really not worth going to all that trouble only doing half a job.

Get stuck in, do it once, and do it right. You'll be a lot happier about the job afterwards.

and whilst your about it, install some flash tape on the panels to help kill the rattling from the bass.I've got to redo mine and it's easier to do this first time round

You're right it's worth it....I am quite hesitant to go for an amp install and everything, so ... s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Karlus, the stuff you want is roofing flash tape, from your local hardware shop, its a rubbery tape with an aluminium coat on ones side and a really sticky glue on the other, good luck s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

My doors are currently 'bare' and I have dynamated the inside of the door and the surround where the mdf clip will go.

In terms of speaker cable, people will harp on all day about the sound quality of a cable but to normal ears the cheap stock stuff will work equally as well.
