Hi all !

Just installed the Alpine Active Sub Woofer SWD-1600 under the dash, took some work to create the brackets to get it to sit right but it fits & sounds great !

The Woofer Houseing is quite scratched trying to hold it with one hand and get the positions right. It is not fouling on the spring retainer for the brake peday, there's about a 5mm cleareance between them.

It's supported with 3 steel brackets and is very solidly mounted. I originally had copper tubing for the brackets but was concerned about them cracking and the whole unit falling on my legs. With the steel brackets, it ain't going anywhere !

Will supply other pictures / dimensions of brackets if anyone is interested in doing something similar.

Nice idea, i have looked into the under dash sub box option, but nothing seems to be coming of it! I would certainly be interested in some more pics and instructions!

Cheers

Having just done a search on powered subs, I realised another member had used the same sub as I have   s:D :D s:D

Unlike 'crankshaft' I opted not to install it under the dash, but between the seats.  The area there is a wasted space so no loss of luggage space or the likes

a couple of pics below

As you can see, I have cut the two cubby doors to leave a third central panel, this has had the two pieces bonded together and strengthened with ply, but leaving two doors still for your cubby's

The spec of the sub/amp is nothing special but it should improve the sound quality enough for my requirements  along with the 350w speakers in the doors  s;) ;) s;)

SWD-1600
DUAL LOAD DESIGN POWERED SUBWOOFER BOX (4Ohm)
• GAIN Control
• Crossover 60-160Hz
• Phase Selector
• Class D Built-in Power Amplifier
• Dual Load Subwoofer
• Dimensions 282 x 195 x 92 mm
• Input Impedance 22k ohms (line input) | 36k ohms (speaker input)
• Max Output 150W

was keen not to add too much weight or loss of space with both a sub and an amp, so the smaller package of the Alpine unit was ideal

i've got one of these, if people are looking for a bass solution for their 2 but still want to retain the storage area and not go mad with amps and subs this gives a good balance.  I've got mine mounted in the passenger bin and i'm still able to put bits in on top of it so overall very little lost in terms of space.  lots of these on the market by different manufacturers imagine they will all be fairly similar.

Sound quality is excellent, won't shatter your windows but does give crisp punchy bass that gives a real balance to the sound that you just can't get from standard components in my experience.  Best part is now the speakers aren't having to work as hard i'm not getting any irritating rattles from the doorcards.  Would definately recommend doing this if you like your tunes makes a surprising difference but admitedly not for everybody though, others might prefer going the 6x9 route, MR_J has done a smashing job of with his if anyone is interested he should be doing a write up soon so check it out.
