Passenger Seat Belt Light Stuck On Since Heavy Passenger Sat In the Car

I kindly offered a lift to a very heavy passenger at the weekend and since then my passenger seat belt light has been flashing and the alarm sound has been going off unless I plug in the seatbelt to disable it.

Is there any way I can release the pressure from whatever is thinking that someone is still sat in the seat? If not, I will probably disconnect the cable.

I will be asking him to lose weight before I offer to drive him again.

Unplug might be the only way for now without taking the seat apart.

It depends which seat you sit in!  The driver seat does not have a weight sensor, just the seat belt latch sensor.  I imagine the Toyota engineers assumed that there would always be someone in the driver seat if the car was moving - and saved a few grams in the process
