Hi all, after a spirited drive my engine light appeared, so I plugged my obd reader in and code p1349 showed up. Any ideas what it could be and the possible fix. The engine feels fine to me?

VVT system controls the intake valve timing properly in response to driving condition.
ECM controls OCV (Oil Control Valve) to make the intake valve timing properly, and, oil pressure controlled
with OCV is supplied to the VVT controller, and then, VVT controller changes relative position between the
camshaft and the crankshaft.

When was the oil last cahnged?

*: DTC P1349 is also output after the foreign object is caught
in some part of the system in the engine oil and the system re␂turns to normal in a short time. As ECM controls so that foreign
objects are ejected, there is no problem about VVT. There is
also no problem since the oil filter should get the foreign object
in the engine oil.

Might be worth removing the the OCV filter and cleaning.

Do you have baby hands with triple jointed wrists by any chance? Just a lot easier if you do.

This is a very tricky code to diagnose as it can be a lot of things.
As Ardent pointed out it could be a dirty engine causing blockage or a sluggish stator in the VVT sprocket due to varnish build up and or a lack of oil pressure at the VVT circuit. This is usually the result of improper oil changes usually by the last owner.
 I would first check to see how dirty the engine is by removing the valve cover as that will give you a clue. If it has a lot of varnish build up then it will need an engine flush.

After that you have to do some comprehensive diagnoses.
There was one engine that was a mess and it was cured with two engine flushes.

Guys thanks for your advice, I found a brand new ocv in the bits the guy gave me when I bought the car. Anyway fitted that and reset the code and took it for a drive and the engine light stayed off, so fingers crossed it's fixed the issue. On another note the oil is clean on the dipstick as it was changed in January by the previous owner, I will flush it on the next change as a preventative measure.

Not too difficult I removed the charcoal canister, then sprayed the electrical connection with wd40 and used two fairly long flathead screwdrivers to help remove the connector. Then used a 10mm spanner to crack the bolt holding the ocv then unscrew by hand. then prized it free with the screwdriver.
