I'm repairing/replacing the aerial but need to get to the control unit behind the drivers seat.
I can't seem to get the base trim out with removing the upright trim, but how do those "caps" come off?

Press the center down and then lever up the bottom with a trim remover ?
Say it with love, say it with flowers but never, never, say it in writing.

The idea is to die young as late as possible :)

Press the middle of the clips and remove. Then it is just a matter of pulling the cover off

By no more than 3mm, or you'll burst them. But they do age-harden anyway.  An empty ball-point pen works well

Thanks. It never occurred to press the middle down. However, the other clip (left in photo) is a different type. I think someone replaced it. Feeling underneath, it's kind of serrated. Doesn't want to shift.

In that case just pull it out...replacements are cheap as chips

J88TEO

I have a few spare ones if you need them.

GOT IT! It's about 5 feet long and goes deep down inside the car through to the planets core.

Ok. A slight exaggeration. But it is fairly long.

Obviously someone in the past has replaced it with a simple serrated push fit type that is probably a tad too big for the hole. I needed pliers to get it out. I think I need therapy now.

I think this is evidence that the soft top is not the original.

Just got the car back from the garage after having a new handbrake fitted, and they lost some of the other clip and bolts too.

Once I sorted the aerial, I'll fit the correct/better clips if I can.

@J88TEO That'd be magic! 2 by the looks of it. Shall I PM you?

A source of supply for several of the clips on our cars:

http://www.vehicleclips.co.uk/toyota-plastic-rivet-trim-clip-mr2-luggage-compartment-frunk-clips.html
10x Toyota MR2 Trim Clips

Thanks for your offer @J88TEO but I'll get those off eBay. I've got some other places I could use them, so I might need quite a few.

I bought those clips. 1 pack from the eBay seller and 1 pack from VehicleClips. Turns out, they're the same people but the clips were cheaper from eBay.

The heads on these are approx 3mm smaller in diameter, and couldn't find anything else from VehicleClips more aesthetically pleasing.

I did find these on eBay:
5x Clips For Mitsubishi Toyota & Nissan 7mm Push Fit Plastic Trim Panel Black

... which are 99.9% identical.

Below is a specific clip/ supplier that I have previously used around the Frunk.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Toyota-MR2-Trim-Clips-For-Front-Luggage-Compartment-Frunk-Spare-Wheel-Area-/371600169292?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

The Frunk clips in particular are likely no longer the OE clips as they do have a habit of breaking under close scrutiny. So, it may be that some replacements will differ.
Likely a good idea to replace all clips in an area to maintain similarity, appease our OCD, which means keeping up with the current best/ lowest priced source of supply.

Such is the power of the internet, it used to be straightforward, Main Dealer or Halfords.
I am not going to say they were the good old days!

And why not?
Used to be able to pop in a loacl fasterner shop to get all the bolts & nuts and whatever, even on the weekends but now have to wait for deliveries.

In my old days there was only Main Dealers and Halfords, the specialist local shops were a bit later.
But, one time I bought  some track rod ends for Mrs J's Fiesta from a motor factor,  found they didn't fit! Money back and got them from Mr Ford at less cost!
