No Motorway driving

I never travel on motorways,- i have no need to. I normally do about 10 to 15 miles a day, and average about 45 mph, the only time my car gets above this is for about 2 minutes, when i do abouy 70- 80, is this bad for my car? and do you think i should take it down the motorway for the sake of it?

You should take a longer drive every now and then, how about weekend trips?

Short runs might discharge the battery in the long run and make it die prematurely. It will also keep condensed water in the exhaust system, which will make it rust through before it should. You might also get carbon buildup in the engine, if you just do short runs without loading the engine.

Just go and enjoy the car without any reason to go anywhere!  s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:

When you say "loadng the engine" does that mean me hooning around is good for it?

I also mainly do short trips, communte to work and back, etc, with the odd 700 miles round trip oop north.

Yeah, flooring it once in a while keeps the engine healthier than crawling in traffic. Then again, if you never floor it, you probably won't even miss the lost power  s8) 8) s8)

i average about the same speed though, perhaps even less and all i do is motorway driving nearly, now guess what motorway that would be on if i said i'm near London  s:roll: :roll: s:roll:

Am I the only one who gives their car a damn good thrashing at every opportunity then? (read: every time I drive it)...   s:oops: :oops: s:oops:    s:D :D s:D

nope, i try to drive the nuts off of it at every oppotunity  s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:  but the M25(where i do most of my driving  s:cry: :cry: s:cry:  ) usually has other idea's, still i always try to go and find the odd quiet country road once in a while

That's very true.. still, that's what the sliproads are for..   s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:  

Admittedly, a few weeks ago when doing that, I went past a police car on the inside lane of one of those 'split' sliproads (the one where the A3 joins the M25 going North)..   s:oops: :oops: s:oops:

You haven't tried M25/A21 coming off the anti-clockwise M25 to go south on the A21 - 270 degree corner with serious positive camber. Been round it a couple of times in the '2 (before I sold it   s:cry: :cry: s:cry:  ) VSC bleeping like a  nutter with 3 figures on the speedo.

If you do try it, be warned -

1) Dont even think about it in the wet - too much diesel and shit from lorries. Had the back-end out on my silver '2 (pre '03 so no VSC) at <50mph

2) The camber drops away before you exit the corner, so dont try to carry the speed all the way through. I only did that once and the passenger gave me a good slap as we came to a rather ragged halt somewhat closer to the armco than she would have liked   s:oops: :oops: s:oops:

Agree on that - Northbound M11 from Anticlockwise M25, says max speed 40mph (I think) , they are wrong I can go much faster than that around there!!

interesting questions, those limits on te slip road, are they real limits? or just advisory you'll never get around it any faster signs?

IIRC most are 'advisory' signs (no red circle around the outside).

Received wisdom (from a member of the traffic plod) was that if you crashed while exceeding an 'advisory' limit, you could well be done for dangerous driving, but not exceeding the limit (unless you were doing over 70, obviously)..
