Replacing the Fisher Price Sony HU

I was wondering if any could help me or has experienced a similar problem?

I am in the process of replacing the Sony Fisherprice unit in my 53 plate with a JVC KD-SHX 751.  I chose this model due to the nice SD card slot and the fact that I could get several CD's on something no larger a thumbnail (ideal due to the limited storeage space in the cockpit).

Following the advice on this forum I managed to extract the Sony HU leaving a nice hole and the 3 multi-may connectors on the end of the audio loom.  After a quick trip to my local audio specialist I returned with the facia adapter kit and a ISO adapter cable.  Job done I thought!

The adapter is the one from that fits the 2000 RAV, and although I haven't managed to work out how it all fits together, I'm pretty sure this will be OK.  However, the adapter is rather confusing me. Two problems, the ISO end of the adapter is split into two connecters which are quite larger than the single socket on the JVC.  The other end of the adapter has only two sockets, yet the loom and the Sony HU has three connecters + ariel.

Any ideas?

- I'm thinkiing the JVC is a non-stardard connector (I have the plug and bare-leads that came with the unit, with the wiring diagram to go on)

- Is the adapter wrong?  what is the purpose of the  3 multi-way connectors on the Sony HU.  More leads than Battersy Dogs home for so little audio performance.   s:lol:  s:lol:

 - If I had the wiring diagram for the 3 loom connectors on the look I could butcher the adapter and wire in the JVC connector (supplied with the HU) with the adapter socket ends??! Does that sound confusing?

many thanks for any help given.

Shaun,

here's you're wireing anyway, only 2 connectors are needed, tie all others back as the're not required

Thanls for this,

I think I'll be able to make something up from the lead provided with the JVC and ISO adapter.  Still battling with the Autoleads facia plate at the mo.  s:evil:  s:evil:  No instrctions and around 12 different bits of plastic, nice!

Shaun,

FWIW I did this for my 03 Roadster too recently - sounds like you've got all the bits you need. The RAV4 adapter kit takes a while to get to grips with - but once you've got it assembled correctly and snapped off the correct surplus mounting points (double check them!) it fits together really nicely.

One thing I found is that when bolting in the new head unit, I couldn't fit it back in if I used the spacers on the rear of the two mounting bolts on each side. Just remove the spacers for those, and it will fit with some gentle persuasion ..
