New sump - OEM or third party?

Hello all - question is as in the title. Need to replace the sump (not looking forward to prying off the old one), and OEM ones are getting on for three times the the price of aftermarket. Is there a difference in quality such that going OEM matters?

Only reason to go for aftermarket other than a brand new pattern part for less than £60 would be for oil returns or greater capacity for track use.

Aftermarket sumps are going for about £25-30 on eBay and elsewhere, OEM ones are about £70 in places like MR2-Ben

Will look into that tool, thanks - though I've found a paint scraper and a mallet  does the job on other cars, it's just messy and relatively time consuming

I think the definition of "aftermarket" is slightly different in my head. In my head it means the likes of moroso or hanger111.. it sounds like you mean second hand.. 2nd fine it's just being sure the mating surface is good and some donut hasn't cross threaded the plug..

MR2 Ben is expensive.  I can't see why an aftermarket one is not good enough. You might want to give one a couple of extra coats of paint.

Eliseparts are doing new genuine 1zz sumps for £50. I bought one, genuine Toyota and used it after someone left a brick in the road which damaged mine. I used Elring Dirko sealant as that was what I had  and it has sealed fine. Use a small bead or you risk it getting into the oil pickup.

MR2 Ben is expensive.  I can't see why an aftermarket one is not good enough. You might want to give one a couple of extra coats of paint.
