Water leak!

Hi guys I've been having a water problem now the weather's shite.

I've got the carpet out and water is pooling behind the passenger seat and in the passenger footwell.

The drain bags are clear and nothing leaks inside when I pour water down them.
I tightened the hard top clamps and adjusted the window angle and height which has slowed down the leak a lot but still small pools of water are sitting on the floor.

Only other spot I can think of is the little cup with a drain hole where the soft top side seal meets the back of the door.

Any ideas guys?

Where the water is pooling shown in the picture below.

The drain bags can leak by splits in the material, or failure of the sealing on the plastic exit pipes.
If the water is not just in front of the seat, but also under it, follow this.

Secondary drains under bins.

The car can get flooded if the water drains aren't clear, but even if the main drain gets blocked, there are two secondary drains underneath the bins which should prevent flooding.  Underneath the plastic bins are two round rubber pieces that look like grommets, one either side. They are short pipes, & so narrow in diameter that they silt-up & get blocked. They can either be cleaned out with a cable tie, or hauled out & thrown away. No side-effects. Getting rid of them will also allow the area to clear of water more easily.

If it's the seal onto the plastic pipe you could try something like a Tigerseal-stuck vinyl glove wrapped around it.  It doesn't have to be perfect, the drains mod will get rid of any leak.

Is there water under the bins?

I had an issue where the connecting joint from the soft top bag to the side drain had snapped.

So the water from the bag was pouring into the cabin and collecting under the bins. This would then slosh forward into the passenger footwear area.

Take the trim out and youll see a little corrugated pipe connecting the bag to the drain point on the body structure.

No there doesn't seem to be anything coming from the rear drains, I've poured water down it with a hose while watching the connecting pipe for the bag and nothing has ever come into the storage bin area. The biggest leak was coming from the A pillar seal which I have reduced by adjusting the window pressure and height. Do you know where the small drain that the soft top's window seal runs down into the back of the door goes to? could it get clogged aswell?

Was it wet forward of the seat only, or also under it?

There's water dripping down the a pillar down the fusebox area on the side of the dash then runs down into the footwell and there's a 2nd leak (From what it seems like) coming down somewhere from the back of the door into the back left corner of the passenger seat.

You mentioned hardtop before, they usually stop any leak at the rear.

But for water behind the seat, I recommend you follow my first post.  Getting the thin pipes out is a no-brainer.

The A- pillar can be affected by a tab that's in the rubber seal.  I've never had to touch it but others have.

I had a leak which eventually was fixed with a stormsure repair kit on some very small holes in the material just above the plastic exit pipe, around the back and out of sight just to make it harder to find!
I found it by putting water down the edge of the softtop when everything was dry, making it easier to find any wetness in the area.

Might not be relevant if you have a hard top on but.....

With a soft top the design is set to defend against water being driven in when driving, so heading from the front of the car to the back.  That means that if you park your car facing uphill the water can find its way in.  It does end up near your front circle with a soft top.

If you are parking on a slope, try the other way around!

I don't have a hard top *yet*, that's some good info since my driveway is sloped! I'll try park in forwards on a rainy night and see if I still have any leaks  ;D

just spotted the deliberate mistake in my post.  Parking facing DOWNHILL is the way that leaks more than uphill.  In any case, if you have leaks try the other direction!!

Hi guys just an update for any having similar issues.

The a pillar trim was not properly attached and was pulling away due to the plastic clips being old and brittle, and the weatherstripping around the a pillar and top of windshield need's replacing.
Got the parts on the way and should fix my issue!
