Other info:

It will need a new roof imminently, it's cracked in places and I've patched it with vulcanised tape. It doesn't leak, but it isn't pretty! I'd rather you know about than be disappointed seeing it in person. I'm lucky enough that the car has always been garaged, and as my second/third car this hasn't been a priority, but I appreciate a new owner may wish to renew it straight away, so I have reflected this in the price. Second-hand roofs are around £300 - £700 from J-Spec, or new from our famous Swansea-based friend for a bit more. Sub-frame is original but good, has been protected and painted in the past. If I'm being really picky, there is a small dent in the off-side rear wheel arch, about an inch long, I presume from a shopping trolley.

Most maintenance done by me and my Dad (an engineer), with other work by a local mechanic (e.g. clutch and steering rack). Paintwork clayed and polished occasionally by my friend Mark (a local detailer, "@Clean_for_the_Weekend" on Instagram), and he also previously polished/sanded the headlights for me a couple of years ago. I'm the 3rd owner, and it's been in my ownership for the last 10 years. If you glance at the MOT history online, it really hasn't been used as much as it should in that time!

Mileage is low in the last few years because of the arrival of children and house renovations. Otherwise it's been used mainly to get to and from local cricket matches, a couple of "Ding Days" (thanks Simon and other forum/club members!), and some hill-climb event trips (spectating not competing!) in convoy with my Dad's MGTF and my uncle's Westfield. My cousin loves the MR2 despite owning a McLaren, but for some reason he just won't swap!

It feels the right time for someone else to enjoy it and choose their own hood, as I have other things I need to achieve this year as the weather warms up.

Price and location:

£1,750 ono to reflect the new hood needed. I think this is fair, I'd like to think it's a £3k car, but I won't be offended if you tell me otherwise! And I don't think they'll be this cheap forever! Car is located in Wantage OX12, southwest Oxfordshire, viewing any time from 10th April as we're currently away. Please communicate via the forum following club guidance and rules for transparency. The car is currently not advertised anywhere else. Come and have a look and a cup of tea and see what you think.

Thanks for reading – and thanks also to such a great community. I'm an avid reader more than a contributor/poster, I've always found the answers I needed so haven't cluttered the threads (less is more sometimes, right?!), and I'm very grateful for all the snippets of info and wealth of knowledge from other members. Best wishes, Nick (aka Page3).

Sorry - a bit of a photo dump, the upload process kept timing out. Pistonheads readers may recognise some roadtest locations!

Hi @Chilli Girl (Jane!), thanks for your message. Yes of course, no problem for the 11th April. If it's OK with you (and Moderators/forum rules), I'll send my contact details and address via PM. Have a great bank holiday weekend. Kind regards, Nick.

Hi, could I view 12th April (assuming not sold to Chilli Girl). I regret selling my MR2 last October, keen to get another. Rgds Kevin

Hi @page3 Nick,  I know that you're away at the moment but just wanted to know the date of the V5 document for your car - that way it'll hopefully identify whether it has the very latest security features as it changed in 2004.

Thanks alot and hope you're enjoying your time away.

Jane.

Registration date has no correlation to build date.

When I worked in the motor trade, I saw brand new cars that were more than three years old before they were registered.

Carolyn

A quick look underenath would tell you, Jane, but I don't really see why it should be much of an issue.

In fact, the obvious answer is to ask @page3 the owner whether he or his father knows by looking underneath it.  I'll be there on Saturday so hopefully I can get some answers when I see it. ;D

Hi Jane (@Chilli Girl), thanks for your message. Sorry for the late reply, we got back last night.

The V5C tells me the car was first registered on 28th June 2005. I know there's a bit of conjecture over VIN number decoding, the 10th numerical digit is a "5", but if reading the whole VIN from left to right then it's a "0".

Thanks @Carolyn  and others for your input. I'm fairly confident it has the 2004 updates, (listed here https://www.mr2roc.org/index.php?topic=4807.0), but greater, more knowledgeable minds may tell me otherwise!

In the meantime, if there's something specific you'd like me to confirm/look for please let me know. I'll PM my contact details for Saturday. Best wishes, Nick.

Thanks Kevin @kbpop123 . I'll let you know as soon as I can assuming Jane (Chilli Girl) does not take the car on Saturday.

Regards, Nick.

@ Nick, thanks for update. If the MR2 is still available, then I can get over to you after 3pm on Sunday. I have grandsons until then, FYI I live in Reading, so not too far away. Rgds Kevin

Chilli Girl

Just to update the post, sadly due to family commitments I was unable to view today. Very disappointed but my frail 93 yr old mother is my priority today. I've been in touch with both seller @page3  and potential buyer @kbpop123 who is viewing the car tomorrow afternoon.  It'll be great if the car remains in the Club.

Hi Nick,

If Kevin doesn't take this could I please be next on the list.

Thanks

Hi All,

I'm happy to update the thread with the news that the car is now sold - Kevin collected the car on Thursday. I'm thrilled that the car will stay known to the club/forum, and it was a pleasure to meet Kevin and his wife, who made the selling process a thoroughly enjoyable experience (aside from one small hiccup on my part when the car wouldn't start!). I'm looking forward to seeing the car with a new roof which I believe Kevin has already arranged.

Thanks to Jane and Jez who also expressed interest in the car, I hope you find what you're looking for soon.

I will miss the "2" and it's burble, I drove everywhere with the roof down, just not as often as I would have liked! I will keep reading the forum and threads, and might post when I get my next car, but I'm afraid it's more likely to have 4 seats, or more! Thanks again to you all for being such a positive, welcoming car community.

Best wishes, Nick.
