Hi i dont know if to be worried or not. My MRS had a service 4000 miles ago and since then ive used a whole bottle of oil topping it up. I do drive it pretty hard, but is this kind of normal?

I take it that is a 1L bottle?

MrT says up to 1L per 600miles , personally i think that is outrageous oil consumption

Mine used to use about 1L per 1000miles until i switched to 5w-40 fully synthetic oil (from 5w-30) now it uses hardly any (1L in the last 3000miles)

A litre every 600 miles! That's appalling. No wonder people are concerned about the cats..

What do you mean?

As close to no oil consumption as to make no difference.  Never topped it up in 3 years and it's due another service in 6 weeks and still reads full.

I guess either it's a good one, or I can't read the dipstick  s:D :D s:D

Have you checked the pre cats? If there ok then although it is quite a bit of oil just keep checking and topping up. If there breaking up then you know the oil use is from damage to the engine.Gut them and hope it doesn't get worse.

I think that there will always be some variation in oil consumption, its not like our cars have hand built, blueprinted engines (i wish) but also other factors will affect oil comsuption, oil type(brand, grade etc) driving style, driving type (differing roads etc) and finally how it has been run in, i seem to remember reading somewhere that an engine that has been run in 'properly' will use a bit of oil.

Mine has always used oil but at least it is at a consistant rate, i had an Audi 80 before the 2 and that used about 1L per 2000 miles of moterway driving when i got it at 60k and when i got rid of it at 150k it still used the same amount of oil, so i would say as long as it doesnt change its oil consumption habits, dont worry
