I'm about to replace the discs and pads all round on my '2 for the 2nd time. As Speedways are miles cheaper than elsewhere and have good recommendations from here, I thought I'd give them a go.

For the rear brakes they offer 2 different discs, one vented (16mm thickness) and one solid (10mm thickness). Does anyone know if they are intechangeable or whether they changed the thickness at some point?

thanks,

dave

They are vented

Hmm that's what I thought but the spyderchat specifications sheet implies they are 10mm rather than 16mm thick. Making it unclear which one's to go for.

Never heard that US would have different discs...but measure yours, it's easy to tell which ones you have  s;) ;) s;)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Speedways have now changed their site so it is obvious which ones you need.

Mine turned up this morning, all I have to do is work out which is which now   s:roll:  s:roll:

I've done front brakes before, which I found straightforward but I was wondering whether anyone has any tips for replacing the rear brakes? Do I need to remove the hand brake assembly as well?

thanks

The handbrake just connects to the calipers, nothing special about it.

Worth mentioning, that the rear calipers have to be screwed inwards. Do NOT push them with force  s8) 8) s8)

That's great thanks! Any idea how you screw the calipers back in? Can you do it by hand or is there a slot for screwdriver/bodging device?

thanks!

There are 2 'depressions in the piston face on the rear calipers where it meets the pad, what you are supposed to do it get a caliper rewind tool from halfrauds (or similar) for £20 and wind them back in, however you can use some large jawed pliers into the depressions and wind back that way. DO NOT grip the body of the piston itself or the seal as you WILL damage it

While you are in there have a look at the rubber seals on the piston and slides for damage as if they are damaged you will need to replace them or the caliper will seize in time

Its not a difficult job and shouldnt take too long

Good luck   s:) :) s:)

I bought one for £3, only to find out it went in by hand just fine...

Cheers Folks, very useful advice.

Unfortunately I was thwarted by a more basic problem that I can't get the caliper bolts off.   s:roll:  s:roll:  I'll pick up a bigger breaker bar tonight and see if I can 'persuade' them.
