MRS fuses

Hi,

New 1999 MRS owner, so excuse my ignorance as the only manual I have is in Japanese!

I have been getting an intermittent ECU light coming on my dashboard recently, which goes when I switch the engine off, and is very difficult to replicate what is the cause. I only had the car 4 days before I span the car in the wet (Toyo proxes are now on the way), and have only noticed this light since getting it back from the accident repair shop. I think that the engine does not seem to have the pull that it did before above 5000 revs, but because I only had it a short time before the accident it is hard to remember.

I have seen quite a few posts on here about reseting the engine management via the 3 fuses (passesnger compartment and engine bay) but I can only find the 2 that refer to the ECU in the passenger side. I have found the relay and fuses box under the bonnet, but nothing that looks like it relates to an ECU fuse.

Does the import version only have 2 fuses or is it named as something else, and am I looking in the right place?

I'm sure that there are some ecu related ones in the engine bay fuse box - i'll take a check when i get home...

In the engine bay there is one called EFI, I think that's the one you're looking for...

Not been their myself, but you are looking in the engine bay? Not under the front bonnet?

If all else fails, unhook the battery for about 20 minutes. Lose your radio presets, but I think thats all.

Can't get into the engine bay as yet as I am still waiting to get an engine cover lock from the repairers so they have tied it down for the time being!

I think I will have to wait until then and disconnect the battery to make fully sure it is reset. I might have to get Toyota to try and suss out what the fault code is when I get it serviced (which should be in the next couple of weeks). It is a bit odd that the fault light coming on is intermittent, but I take it as a good sign that there is nothing majorly wrong.

I'm a '99 MR-S too, and had identical symptoms with intermittent CELs and high-rev weakness when I first got it. I also thought that the CEL latched on until it was read, but mine reset itself by killing the engine too (anyone know whether our CEL is supposed to latch or not?)
Rather than hunt down the correct fuse I went straight for the battery disconnect option, then cleaned the MAF and all has been well for the last 40,000 miles.
About time I had a look at my fuse layout too!

Cheers, I will give that a try when I can get at it.

I had MAF problems on my Audi TT when I had it, so these kind of issues don't surprise me.

It kind of makes you wish they didn't bother with them as they can be a pain when they don't work properly.

I understand where you're coming from, and I really miss the days of plug/point/dizzy cap engines. But with the tolerances that cars run to nowadays and emissions requirements, sensors are here to stay. Dunno 'bout the 'TT, but the MR-S seems to be a pretty stable set-up....I've just had the one CEL (flat out on a blistering hot day) in 60,000 miles.

MR2ROC support is also on-hand and the guys here are great, so add it to your favourites, use the "search", and if that doesn't work - shout s:!: :!: s:!:
Not sure where you're based, but its worth checking out the events forum for get-togethers too.
