Hi,

I got a cheapo tape adapter for my MP3 player from eBay this week. I stuck the tape in the player with the MP3 playe running. I got sound for about 5-10 seconds then my stock Sony HU ejected the tape.   s:? :? s:?

I have tried this a few times now and I get the same result everytime. One of the guys at work has told me that a bit of foam on the tape header (the adapter) might help. At the moment it just has bare metal.

Does anyone have any experience with these adapters? Or any thoughts on why it isn't working?

It was only a cheap unit but it would be nice to get the thing going.

Cheers,

Fraz.

mechanism is sticking, if the heads can't turn it assumes your at the end of the tape and ejects it.

try it with a tape at the end of it's loop and I bet the same happens

I have one. Its a Philips one and I have the opposite problem. It plays fine (sounds pretty good too to be honest), but the bloody think wont eject sometimes! It keeps catching on the hanging flap that folds down when there is no tape in there.

I think the tape mechanism on the Sony head unit was an afterthought, cos as a unit, its not actually that bad (some on here would attest otherwise......  s:wink:  s:wink:    s:lol:  s:lol:  )

Not sure what yours would be, but see if you can borrow one from someone else and do a comparison. Might be able to narrow it down then.......

They don't turn anyway Mark. The one I have doesn't turn when I try it, but it plays fine....

I may be missing the point here but the spindle thingies (sooo technical) in the tape turn very easily. I haven't tried a normal tape yet so I suppose the problem could be to do with the HU.

I used to have a Sony tape adaptor, and I found that in order to get it to work with most HU's (Blaupunkt in particular) I had to remove the nylon gear wheel inside that connects the 2 spools together. Not sure if this is the case with the sony as I always used my line-in adaptor in the '2
