Gremlins in my stereo

My car has the fisher price audio unit in it and just lately it's been doing some odd things.

When the car is started from cold I'm finding that the radio will power off for a split second before coming back on when I pull away from the drive way.

The display goes off and the sound will go, but then it'll come back to life before it can drop the aerial.

So far it's only done it after being parked for a number of hours. It's too random to pin it down, but all the plugs on the back of the set are in correctly.

Anyone else ever had that with the fisher price???

Never heard about this one before but I would think its probably a loose connection somewhere on the power side:?

Slight update on this

I went into my toyota dealer last week to have new alloys fitted on the car as they were showing signs of laquer defects at just 1.2k miles s:cry: :cry: s:cry:

While they were fitting the new wheels I mentioned the stereo concern, the service advisor checked the technical system for reported concerns but drew a blank.

Tomorrow though they'll be taking it a step further because the bl00dy thing has packed up all together now s:evil: :evil: s:evil: s:evil: :evil: s:evil: s:evil: :evil: s:evil: s:evil: :evil: s:evil:

The whole set is dead now, when I turn on the cars lights the head unit illumination pulses at 1 second intervals, the aerial will rise 6" and then goes down again.

I'm not feckin impressed with Toyota at the moment s:cry: :cry: s:cry:

I had 2 years in a Civic Type R and it saw the dealership once....and that was for it's 12 month service, this mr2 has had a full set of wheels, the stereo is screwed and the cigar lighter socket pulls out of the dash everytime i unplug my ipaq.

How the feck do I get my CD back out?

sorry to hear your probs, have you tried unplugging it and then plugging it back together?? sometimes a power switch can help on electronics

The car will go and have open head unit surgery tomorrow at the dealer I got it from.

Who makes the stereo in the current 2?

By the looks of the design and the way its packed up so early i'd suspect it's a Visteon unit.

One thing i would suggest is to check the voltage of your car battery, if its too low then it could be causing strange logic functions to take place such as those which you mentioned.

The only thing is it would be likely that other electrics in your car would be suffering if this were the case.

To get your CD out, normally if you reset a CD player the first thing it does is eject the CD out of it. The easist way to do this is to cut the power to your CD player for a few seconds, e.g. by removing the fuse or by unplugging the leads at the back of the stereo.

I hope all of this helps you out a bit and if you need me to elaborate / clarify, just ask.

The CD player is made by Matsuhita (sp) who are the parent company of Panasonic.

When I started the car this morning the stereo was fine, all the way to work it played faultlessly until I pulled into the car park when it did it's usual antics.

I called the dealer and took it down there this afternoon, the service advisor came out and had a look and managed to f00k it up good and proper s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

The upshot of it is......they've ordered a new head unit for the car.

Voltage to the car battery is fine, and nothing else is ever affected on the car.
