I have a small coolant leak form the middle of the 2. I have put the car up on a jack and had a crawl around to look see and it is coming from the area where several pipes run together underneath the car right in the centre and midline. Is this a common fault and one I should have a go at myself do you think? or the wife works with someone who's husband is a mobile mechanic should I let him have a look, or last resort should I book it in to Mr T take hold of my ankles and get ready for a rogerin!
Goes without saying it's out of warranty!

Question ? Do you have Air con ?

If so it could just be the compressor getting cold and condensation forming, then falling off when you stop.

Most aircon cars will have a pool on the floor after it's been used.

Just a thought ??

Thanks for the suggestions Darren,
I do have aircon but I haven't been using it lately, also the fluid under the car is the same red colour as the coolant and corresponds with the drop in level in the expansion tank. It seems to be coming from a sponge (insulation?) covered pipe above what appear to be high pressure metal pipes (power steering?).

The 2x 1mm diameter silver pipes are the aircon.  the small 3mm green pipe is the clutch.

I've never come across this problem before, but I can tell you that underneath the sponge (protective coating) the hose does change from solid to rubber piping, so it could be leaking at this join and just need a tighter jubilee clip.

I have had and STILL have this problem. In fact, MrT reported it on my last service, but they wanted it back in to investigate and that in itself was inconclusive of price cos they would have to have it in and strip it down to find the leak, which was going to cost an enormous amount in labour costs. So, I asked the engineer how bad the leak was and he said although he didn't know cos he couldn't find it, he did say that he didn't think it was immediately dangerous in that it was a slow leak and differing amounts were leaving the system under differing weather and driving conditions (which was MY info to him........). So I took the car away, have checked the water level every week since then and with a little topping up here and there, I have had not one problem. I would like to get it sorted at some point cos its bound to get worse, but right now, its not causing me any undue hassle.

If you DO find out where your leak is coming from, then let us know, cos then I can at least look in the right vacinity instead of me having to raise the car up, which I don't have the space and facilities to do...............

I noticed a similar evidence of coolant escape on the undertray in front of the rear wheels on our 2. I knew it was coolant due to the pink colour but couldn't see where it had leaked from and found no evidence of recent leakage. Have topped up the coolant level by about 10-15mm a cuople of times in the last year. Maybe worth getting mr T to look at it before the warranty expires.
