My Car threw a CEL

Driving home from a friend's at midnight on Monday, the dreaded dash light came on accompanied with a noise that sounded like a cross between a Sopwith Camel and a maxed out Nova.  s:? :? s:?

As I had ten miles to travel (with the CEL light on and the infernal noise) I had plenty of time to consider the cause. Hole in the induction filter? Knackered MAF? Knackered 02 sensor? Exhaust blowing? Header-to-block leak. I had a look when I arrived home but as it was so late (and the car so noisy) I had to leave it to this morning. I was gutted. My pride and joy broken.  s:cry:  s:cry:

As there was no visible cause in the morning I called Mr T. They told me to bring it in at 2pm. So I took a half day, called home, picked up my car and drove it to the dealer.

Their first diagnostic (while the engine was still hot, so no proper look as yet) was that the header might have a hairline crack in it.  s:shock:  s:shock:  I had an hour to consider all the ramifications of this revelation. Header cracked – precats – which are gutted – did I cause the damage? – they'll blame me – and they won't honour the warranty claim.  s:( :( s:(

An hour later the service manager returned with my keys. "All done, sir. One of the manifold bolts had worked loose and fallen out, leaving a gap". PHEW!  s:D :D s:D   I could have kissed him!  s:lol:  s:lol:

I bet you didn't tell him that you may not have tightened it properly after removing the precats  s:wink:  s:wink:

Nope. Or that Mark might not have tightened it properly.  s:wink:  s:wink:   Seriously, it had just been in for it's 20K service so it probably happened then. But I seriously cacked myself! And I got the told you not to mess with it look from Bev.  s:D :D s:D
