Hi guys

finally collected my car on friday, and havnt stopped smiling since   :-) :-) :-)

i love it

one question though is when i start the car the revs shoot up to 2000 and if its first time ive started the car that day they stay there for a while.  spoke to garage and the guy said that this is ok as the engine is just getting itself to the proper heat then the revs will drop down after a while

is this true?

Yep, "auto-choke" effect (not really, but similar) will keep the revs up high until the engine is at optimum running conditions. Mine does it and I think pretty much everyone else on here will tell you the same about theirs......

Don't worry about it and enjoy the car!

Come to think of it...has anyone ever seen a (factory) car that didn't raise the revs when it's cold? Maybe it's just not that obvious on quiet car without tachometer...
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

You are right, and having a soft / no top (& H&S & Markiii Inlet & no pre-cats   s8) 8) s8)  does bring it home to you. My Mondeo though goes to about 1500, whereas the 2 goes above 2000, albeit for no more than about 10 - 15 secs.

It does vary. I don't think there is any hard and fast rule on cold idle speed to be honest. Mine is just over 2K, many others have said thiers doesn't go over 1.5K. Don't think there is too much to read into the differences......

?? Don't honestly know. TBH it rose about 3 - 400rpm after I had the Unichip fitted, but unless anybody else has any opinions to the contrary I'm not that bothered. It would be different if it stayed there for a long time, but I am usually motoring within 45 seconds - the time taken to shut the garage door.  s:wink:  s:wink:

IMO its better to warm the car up on the move, rather than leaving it idling in the drive. No wheelspin, of course!

Yeah , my idle goes up with the aircon on. I supposed it would as there is more load on the engine so the ECU ups the revs.

When I got my Unichip fitted, the idle revs went down... So far somtimes I feel it will stall.   s:shock:  s:shock:

Yeah, it's supposed to do that. The idle will also go up a bit when you apply some electrical load.

hi guys just wanted to quickly check again.  but noticed mines goes up to 2000 then drops to 1500 in few secs but it stays there a while, most ive left it is a couple of mins then i start driving but should it still be up there that long?

Yeah, it's quite normal that the revs jump after start and then come back to normal. Might take 5-10mins to fully warm up in colder weather and the idle will be a bit higher during that.

Phew, glad it's not just me then.
You feel a bit silly sitting there at a junction and just as the lights change the engine dies.

On a cold startup, mine rises to approx. 1800 rpm, then gradually lowers to about 900 in a minute or so. Sweet music.

Yep, MPG has definately gone up. Which with the prices they are at the moment has to be a good thing.

And you still get the grins when you plant your right foot.
