 s:) :) s:)

Thanks for the search link, I remember reading that thread!

That's not quite what I want it to do. The German one uses the kind of VOX  technology from walkie talkies to only interupt the radio/cd when the iPaq is trying to say something.

Basically it is to try and get Satnav to talk through the stereo system. It mutes the HU and cuts into the speakers with the output from the PDA.

try this Simon

 m http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfis ... http%3A%2F m %

problem bit i see is this

"The backspacing time after the language announcement is then with approx. 30sec"

if only it had a vox mute on the ipaq. I use an amplified walkman speaker hidden down the back of the console, lot easier than attempting to wire it in

Thanks Stu, I'd forgotten about Babelfish!   s:oops:  s:oops:

I think that line is only applicable if the unit has "switch the equipment automatically into the long-term mode"

I think "To shift back thus quiet passages or tracing bridged without constant to the car radio." means that after the unit has gone to long term mode, when playing music, it wont switch back to the radio if there is a gap (quiet passages?) in the tunes. Hence the 30sec gap. On short term mode I think the switch back time is < 2 secs.

I think the bit that didn't get translated at the top means:
If the audio imputs are < 25 secs long such as navigation instructions, the unit will switch back to the radio in about 2 seconds.

Sigh, guess I'll send the link to my dad to translate for me.

It's still a bit expensive at around £60 but for topdown driving with the radio up being about to hear the notification of revenue generators.. sorry accident blackspots... could be worth it.
