Can those of you with accessible soft tops do me a favour? It's a bit bizarre and tricky but it's something I'd like/need to know.

Put the soft top down, then raise it very slightly from the passenger side so that the main supporting arm lifts up a bit. Look / feel down near the drain plug on the passenger (near) side of the car. Can you see a female press stud attachment down there on the end of a thin bit of material attached to the inner wing material? If not, what is it attached to? Mine isn't attached to anything. I mentioned it to the dealer and they think they are going to have to take the whole soft top out to reattach it (if it needs reattaching at all). I just have a nasty feeling that it'll never fit properly again once they've taken it out   s:shock:  s:shock:

Cheers

Put the soft top fully up, and a strip of material should go around one of the supports and held by a popper, is that there?

The other alternative, from the manual diag. it looks like there is a poppered strip that holds whats called a side cloth (a fairly large bit of material) to the bottom of the hood. If it is that, dismantling maybe the only way.

I would rather leave it and keep an eye on the way the hood works for a couple of weeks, and if there appears to be no problem, live with it. There are reports that re-fitted hoods are never the same as before.

I've got them, never found out what it was for other than possibly to attach the little flap of material over the support as roger says.
Never found the male side though, maybe I was lokoing in the wrong place and it's on part of the plastic trim.

Never had ears (or lips as Tem suggested) either.

Thanks guys. I'm sorely tempted to leave it as it's not caused a problem (that I am aware of). Car is going in to have the wheels changed over due to bubbling and I mentioned it thinking they'd know where it attaches. I wasn't expecting them to have to take the top out.

Think I'll tell them to leave it.

I believe from your description Roger, that it's the side cloth bit, which might be why they mention removing the top completely  s:( :( s:(

I was hoping someone might be able to feel down theirs (ooer missus  s;) ;) s;)  ) and say, 'yeah it connects here'.

Just for clarity, this isn't one of the poppers that attaches to one of the horizontal bars that runs along the underside of the actual roof, it's down the inside of the wing right near the drainage hole.
