Drive Shaft?! Cant be?!

Hi Guys, I posted an article a few weeks ago about my shudder as I pull off left. Since then I took my car to several different "proffesionals" that advised me my drive shaft had failed. EEk!

So after 3 views I took MR T to the surgeons to have it replaced, which along with the dive shaft I also had the CV joints replaced.

I've now had it back since friday only to discover that the problem is still there!!!!!!

HELP?

Any more ideas anyone? The shudder only arises when it is warm, is reasonably hollow in sounding... and almost makes me cry!

old post on this subject located at  m http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8769 m

just as a point Peter, have you returned to the garage that did your clutch and gearbox fit and made a complaint? surely you have warranty on the new parts??

the chances are as Adam mentioned before that you have a bearing problem but coupled with the fact that you have a new gearbox on the car i would suggest that you have a duff one there and that a bearing in the gearbox has a defect on it. Just because its new doesnt mean it cant fail

The place that I had the gearbox replaced was the garage that I bought the car from. The sale was hardly smooth with them threatening me and my family after I bought the car....very complicated, but after further complicated preceeding replaced the gearbox.

I mentioned the bearing issue to the garage, and they later replaced the drive shaft. May be because I took it to a company asscociates garage rather than a toyota specialist!?

I will try the garage at my peril to see if I can get a sensible
reaction.

Thanks for all this help guys, its a very distressing problem since the car seems to take all my cash.

The guys that fitted the replacement gearbox fitted a second hand item from a breakers yard. lol! 30 days warranty! Since Expired! Ouch!

Its puzzling the guys that fitted the driveshaft as they were convinced that it was that.

Gearbox will be out and stripped next week at more cost..... or do i fit a new one?

ooh f**k  s:shock:  s:shock:  chance are it came off a crash job then and the forces involved have damaged something. Up to you on new or not but costs may be a lot on a new one, do you know of any companies that can recondition the existing one???

Second hand gearbox can be as little as £50

I doubt it is anything from the gearbox that is causing you trouble as the sound would be obvious or you would feel it through the shifter.

EEK! Well the gearbox is coming out and being stripped and reconditioned.

Still puzzling though, the breakers that supplied the 'box said it was in a fron end smash.

in a smash things do become more pliable that people realise, the rear wheels and they're mounts will move, dependant on the speed, it is possible that this has translated the enertia up the driveshaft and damaged the bearings at the output side. This is of course only a theory but for anyone thats seen slow motion pictures of a crash will realise that a front end smash can damage stuff at the back quite easily.

do you know what speed it was doing when the accident happened?, when i had my crash head on at under 20mph it completely crumpled the front and broke an engine mount. The damage wrote the 2 off  s:oops:  s:oops:

now your pushing it...lol no no idea. But do we all agree its best to get it stripped?

or shall i just part chop it for another one?

Im pot commited with £800 on the table! Does he steal the pot with another big bet or will MR T have a flush?

lol!  s:roll:  s:roll:

Where are you located?  It would be much better to let another roadster owner take it for a test drive.

Iam facing a gearbox problem as well,

 m http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight= m

the conclusion the mechanics ended up is that it's the crown bearings that are gone end they need to be replaced.

i don't know if i should believe them or not, if it's worth a recondition or just go and get a second hand one.

btw, iam trying to trade in my car, oh well, is there anything i can do, anything i can put in the gearbox to quiet the noice? i have tried an oil additive, a paste, i can't remember how it is called, but so far, nothing...  Hey don't laugh now, i was told by a couple of mechanics, seriously now, that a couple of bananas in the gearbox, do miracles    s:oops:  s:oops:

besides, my car is more than likely going, why not to give it a try    s:twisted:  s:twisted:

do you have any ideas, of what the problem might be? No no, i didnt ask your opinion about the babana idea    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:

If you really wanna cheat, put saw dust in your box. That should keep it nice and quiet for the sale...  s:? :? s:?

And while we're at it, coke makes worn out clutches like new for the sale and cinnamon makes leaky radiator hold the water  s:lol:  s:lol:

yeah, as Tem said, sawdust as well.   s:lol:  s:lol:

i was told that as well the other day and i was laughing. i thought the mechanic friend was kidding.

then the day after, my Aussie cousin was here for hols, and i told him my problem, and he goes " yo mate, wanna tell you something but not laugh? wanna know what we are doing down under, in Australia, to quiet our gearboxer, if we are trading them in? we put sawdust"   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:

ok, at first i don't wanna go that far, i only wanna put an additive, at least a decent one, like the paste i already used, but any better miracoulous one? i don't wanna go that far with bananas or sawdust   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:   the paste works after a few hundreds of Km. (if it's gonna work of course)

btw, i don't live in UK, so don't worry, the sawdusted car is NOT gonna end in any of your or any of your friends garages    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:
